In today's electronic Autosport, JPM stated he knew with the McLaren he could never beat the Ferrari or the the Renault in order to win a world championship. So he "became bored with F1". His conversation with Ron Dennis concerning JPM's move to NASCAR lasted less then 20 seconds. JPM did most of the talking during that time.

I can agree with the comment about the McLaren, but I have a problem believing the one about being bored. If I could, I would be very happy to be in F1 driving a Red Bull. Heck, I would enjoy being a Midland just to be part of the circus.

I loved Ron Dennis' comments during..what the French GP? He was being interviewed by someone (maybe Peter Windsor) and the question was in effect "What do you think about Montoya leaving for NASCAR?"

Ron gave a ****ty look to the camera and said, "I'm at an F1 race..." and turned around and walked off.

That pretty much said it all.

Couldn't have said it better, Ron. Don't worry about Montoya, I'm sure his blood will fill with excitement everytime one of the good ol' boys puts him in the wall.

If he thinks he was bored trying to compete with an uncompetitive McLaren, just wat to see how bored he gets being an also-ran in Ganassi's cup car. I give it a year and a half.

the real reason Montoya headed west can be found here:

    http://www.sniffpetrol.com/

Issue 75, near the bottom of the page.

There's also a handy explanation in this issue about why everything in internet chat rooms is true.

not entirely serious, also there is some strong language, be aware.

Well what's Ron supposed to say? Yeah, I know my car is uncompetitive? An F1 car at full scream around a road course is a sight to behold. It is not however, racing. Ron probably has to tell himself that every day just to show up at work sober. "I'm in F1. I'm in F1, I'm in F1"

How about it. "Yeah, I used to race F1, but got bored with it." I think that shows that ultimately he didn't have the Champion's attitude.

Totally agree...However, if I was Flavio I would have gotten rid of Fischella and hired JPM to race alongside Hekki.

Why, so JPM could run into Heikki?

Not me, I like the car set-up input that GF can give me a lot more than having two cars wrecked in race by one of my own drivers.

I don't know, although JPM had the occasional brain loss, he had a lot more speed than GF seems to have. GF has had the fastest car in the last two seasons and won 2 races. He was actually lucky to have won the one last year in Australia due to circumstances with the weather.

Without GF, Flavio has admitted he would not have a driver that would help the engineers with car set-up. Alonso couldn't do that, Flavio would then have two virgin drivers, logical choice was to keep GF.

I think JPM's biggest problem was his personality. He rubbed too many people the wrong way. If I were him, I would have taken the best ride I was offered for 2007 in F1, and show my stuff. Then hope something better would come up in 2008.

I think Flavio learned his lesson when he took Alesi and Berger in 96 expecting them to make up for MS's departure to Ferrari.

Ron word was that he could have gotten the Williams seat that Webber vacated for Red Bull. I agree he should have really tried to shine for the rest of the year as well as 07 and saw how it went from there.

JPM should have taken the Williams ride. F1 is a cycle. I would believe that Williams will be back on top at some point, JPM could have been the hero and helped make that happen. Now he will be running mid pack in NASCAR, until his personality pisses off a Tony Stewart, and then JPM will know what it is like to smack a wall at 150 mph.

Not to feel sorry, he made a lot of money in F1. He will find a real job in Miami in a few years when he realizes NASCAR is a bit more agressive than F1.

Yeah, but your goals are not the same as his.
He has won in F1, he has won the Indy 500, he wants MORE.

You, just want to drive around in circles........ and that would be fun too, for a couple of races (see Ide).

overall, i think JPM was just demotivated like hell. he had no more desire to race in F1 anymore. could be due to the fact he's got a new baby, etc etc... i mean, if monty really wanted to ' prove himself ' or something, he could have gotten himself a renault drive, or, redbull, worst come to worst.

but bottom line here is, he's just not interested anymore. if he really had the desire and will to beat both renault and Ferrari, he could have carried on, which he didn't. just plain demotivated, not 'bored' as he claimed.

He left F1, because noone wanted him, he mention he would STILL be in F1 if Ferrari or Reno had put an offer down but they didnt. Soo now he has nothing better to do than burn bridges.

Enjoy NasCRAPCAR you wont be missed :p

JPM's attention span is not as long as an F1 race. That's his biggest problem.

Yes, bored with F1 the way a brat child gets bored with a game of checkers he can't win, quit and mess up all the pieces. Well done JPM. I will make this predicition about his NASCAR career again-- 5 races till he gets punched out by another driver.

PS- I would love to see Alonso win a championship at McLaren next year!! :D
