Oscar with all due respect: The 4cam ex steve Mcqueen 4m? Thats a little low. And the 275 GTBC speciale 8m? Hell for that amount of money I will make a bid (and think how I am going to pay for it later). I agree mostly with your other estimates although I think you are a little bit on the low side....
Money, Money, Money.... Hi Edmond, Well see, but adding up ends in 230 mil Eur or 309 USD..... That is my guess, could be wrong in some though.....but you are absolutely right regarding the value and people buying them (and never use them)... I drove my 275 last week through traffic, did not think a moment about the value, but did love the sound of the 6 carbs sucking air and setup correctly now......although these values do scare me of. Ciao Oscar
Oscar every time you get scared by values think of the following: In the art market 2 great paintings will be the entire Ferrari market value at Monterey this weekend. That is really a different dimension. Values and sums are always relative you know. The values don't scare me at all. I am used to big numbers. What scares me much more is the way they are increasing. That worries me.
Edmond, I don't drive my Munch or Warhol with 160 over the motorway or circuit......that is my point. I think the total sum is less than the bonusses of some big bankers in the US. Ciao Oscar
Ok now understood your point. Yes you make a good point. Unless art collectors play frisbee with their 'the scream' given that we drive our cars - gives it a different aspect. Although I don't drive my 4 cam anywhere the speed you drive yours 3rd gear at 120km/h around hill climbs is the most daring thing I do....
Can you post a picture of the Warhol? I love Warhol.....his 'Lynn Wyatt' hangs here at the Menil Collection. They drank together at Gilley's before it burned... And of course, she can still be found herself, shopping in River Oaks! Sorry for the derail.....
€6M for the 410 Sport? €8.5M for the 275 GTB/C (Le Mans) Speciale #06701? €6M for the 365 P Tre Posti?
Regarding "1966 Ferrari 330 GT #7123GT Not given Mecum #S64 (59 Testa Rossa Replica)", is it typical for the better auction houses to sell replicas? I haven't noticed them much, but I haven't looked either. I'd like to think that that the butchering of these cars is over, but the implications are kind of scary if this sells for large $$$.
just an interesting observation ...not a single 288GTO for sale in the whole lot..... Does anyone have an educated guess as to how many are still in the USA?
Relative to the number produced certain cars seem to come up relatively infrequently IMHO as they are "keepers"; 288s, 250 swb, 2.7 rs, etc cars that are iconic, beautiful and exciting to drive. Other cars which meet a few of these criteria but not all seem to turn over quite frequently; e.g. Lusso (beautiful but not a great drive), F40 (not that practical) I think people espire to own them and then realise they are not using them and 2 yrs later they are back on the market in many cases (obviously not all - the F40 and Lusso are awesome cars and part of many great collections but relative to production numbers there always seem to be quite a few on offer)
Sorry - Off topic but why are the aluminium bodies referred to as alloy? Is it not aluminium at all and in fact an aluminium alloy? If so what are the other constituents?
The only reason Lussos have been on offer as often in the last year is because the amazing raise in valuation. We are talking double the price in just 24 months and almost quadruple in the last 48 months. Motivates a lot of owners to sell is you're in the money by 100-400%. There were almost 4 times more F40's made over the Lusso's production numbers. A lot of owners own their not so practical F40's (as you put it) in the $450-$500K range. So if one can more than double their money why not? People can believe the fallacy that economics do not or should not play a roll in the collector car market if you're a true enthusiast, but that's just not reality... Geno
Good question but alloy is next to a mixture of metals also a general desciption of a light weight metal and in this case aluminium. Ciao Oscar
Could be wrong (too low) for the 410 sport, but the other two I stick to my guesses, the 275 is nice but "just" a special 275. The Tre Posti is unique but not beautiful, we will know in 3 weeks..... Ciao Oscar
I posted based on having read the suggestion of Louwman ownership made both on a Fchat thread AND in an oblique way by Simon Kidston...... Happy to be corrected. Thanks
