3.2 started in 86.
The data plate on the door jamb indicates this car was manufactured in February 1984. According to the Ferrari VIN Decoder, the "E" in the VIN confirms it is indeed a 1984 Mondial and the other digits confirm it as a US Market QV cabriolet. US cars did not get the 3.2 motor or bodywork until the 1986 model year. Regarding the wheels, those are certainly not OEM QV wheels, but are from a later Mondial. Most likely, the owner "upgraded" to these 16 inch 3.2 wheels—or possibly from a "t", but not sure those have the same offset or if they are a direct bolt-on fit.
Just saw this, but it's been posted for a while. 1982 Mondial 8 (coupe with sunroof) Red / Tan TURBO CHARGED --- 327 HP on pump gas, looks like 400 on Ethanol per the power graph (although owner says more) 36k miles, unknown when the turbo was installed 348 wheels Asking $39,000 Location: Denton TX (?) Source: Craiglist ad as of 9/26/23 (ad and pictures will be gone after a certain time period, cannot capture pictures) The ad is quite detailed so I cannot cut/paste the long ad here. https://dallas.craigslist.org/ndf/cto/d/denton-1982-ferrari-mondial-turbo/7671483926.html
That is a nice, well cared mondial for little money. Only things it needs is front wheel balancing (steering vibration) and upgraded fuse board (still has the ceramic fuses). All the rest is peanuts ....
YouTube video of the car, 11 mins long. I have not watched it but will, posting for historical reasons as it will remain posted on YT long after the Craigslist is removed (unless removed by the YT'r/owner).
Possibly there is confusion on terminology. The "QV" label is typically used for only the 4-valve-per-cylinder update to the 2.9L engine (which was an interim step that went a long way to restoring the power lost by smog regulations on the 2-valve-per-cyclinder/EFI 2.9). The 3.2 obviously also has 4-valves-per-cylinder, but it typically isn't referred to as "QV" in casual discussions because all of the 3.2 had 4-valves-per-cylinder. The QV term is typically usually used to distinguish which version of 2.9 is being referred to. Of course, the 3.2 does spell out "QV" on the intake plenum, but I've not seen the 3.2 referred to as QV in typical conversations.
Don't think I updated this. Bid to $39,250.... appears to be a no-sale (reserve must have been higher) James
1981 Mondial 8 - Grey Market (Euro) Red/tan (blue carpet?) 34k miles (55k kms) - still shows original odometer in kms Metric wheels/tires - AC removed - no mention of belts? $15000 current bid, 1 day left https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1981-ferrari-mondial-8-coupe/
Belt service is done, the "t" is ready for the photoshoot, then BAT. The interior still smells of fine leather, just like that first day at Pozzi in May 1990. No affiliation, on my watch list for some time. They just lowered the asking price 10,000 Euros. Asking 54,890 Euros. Mondial T Valeo Coupe, about 30,000 KM, in Germany. Looks nice to my untrained eyes. https://suchen.mobile.de/fahrzeuge/details.html?id=313800355
It's quite a crowd at BAT! Some argue the belt is easily replaced engine in for $3K, other complain about the apparent lack of any service for the past fiften years.
if there’s really a way to do just belt/tensioner on that T/348 engine without dropping it, I’d love to know more. Serious post.
Lots of discussions and some threads. https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/mondial-t-belt-service-without-dropping-motor.518696/
Hi folks, finally decided to let my T go to a new home. Have owned it for the last 7 years or so and have done a lot of work on it. Too many other projects and just never get to drive it. Link below to an ad for it. Currently on consignment in Payson, AZ. Happy to answer any questions on the car here for anyone interested.
