And just like that, it’s disappeared. No sub-$40k Mondial ever to be seen again.

It is up to $66.5K with 17 hours to go. 21 bids and 132 comments. How high will it go? I do not know of course, but what I know is I am calling Hagerty tomorrow about some significant changes to my policy.

I was the underbidder obviously. I really wanted the car. Very late chassis # for 1989 and has Motronic 2.7. I'm sure I will regret not stepping up a bit higher.

Anyone out there have a similar low mileage, original paint, Motronic 2.7 T coupe that they want to sell? I'm a buyer.

I am new around here, so not saying I know anything....but after your 2.7 comment, I researched and in an FChat post it was said the dual throttle position sensors are the sign of 2.7. I believe these sit on top of the throttle bodies. Mondials from the 90's have these on both whereas the 89's have one on the left side only. This includes the one you bid on. Maybe it uses Motronic 2.5 after all? Just trying to help (and curious to know)

I wondered the same - my understanding (with limited knowledge) is that 2.7s have the two TPS's, not just the two black Bosch boxes. Would love a clarification/explanation.

I need to make a correction. I was wrong when I discussed the differences between the Motronic 2.5 and 2.7 in the Mondial T.

@RobbyC and @JDBfreeheel are absolutely correct. I knew that the Motronic 2.5 had “one” of the black boxes on a side, and the 2.7 had “two” of them, one on each side, but I was forgetting which sensor pairs were indicative of 2.5 vs. 2.7.

Thus, this car is a Motronic 2.5. I went back and reviewed photos of post-89 Mondials, and you can see the difference in those–where the intake tubes actually go into the manifold, on the 2.5, there is one sensor (left side of car) only, and on the 2.7, there are sensors on both sides.

Now, having said the above, my understanding was that the very late model year 1989 Mondials had the 2.7. This particular car on BaT is a late chassis # for 1989 (and I admit, I just got excited during the auction!) but still has the 2.5. Does anyone know what the cutoff chassis # is for 2.5 -> 2.7 in the Mondial T?

Thanks for confirming. I only know enough to require more googling. My Mondial is a July ‘89 build and is 2.5.

@drinkseltzer Don't get too worried about the one I had. It was very low mileage for the age of it. I assume it had been sitting for a long time allowing the coolant to 'eat away' at the gasket between the intake runners and heads. Then someone tried to do a 'quick fix'.

I'd always choose a high mlle car with good service info overone a low mileage car that gets little use.

    I hope this helps.
