Hi All, Please help any advise is a good advise, I'd real have to make a decision what to do next. I sent my car to Ferrari Dealership in Sydney on the bases from my previous discussion with the service manager, and head technician that they had SD1 and valeo program to diagnose gear selection and fix it. The answer both times yes, we do have SDI and able work on this type of gear box, which I authorised 3 to 4hrs max to diagnose. So I put my Mondial on a table top of to the dealership of course at my cost, and its been there since 7th October 2015, been not so pushy I called them 2 weeks later to check on progress, yes the technician is about to set it up and check it out , so this went on for another 2weeks and than they tell me they are waiting for the program to come from overseas somewhere, so I was starting to doubt and not so happy. Been the authorised Ferrari dealership, I'll give them benefit of doubt. To Further calls , Finally they admitted they had no program for it and they are diagnosing the problem through manual procedure, how I don't Know, this about late Nov. I get a call from the technician, and suggesting to replace the Potentiometer and the gear box Actuator, which it is lot of money and attached 6hrs invoice for diagnose. NO guarantee it would be fixed if other work required extra charge, I am not happy (short story), so new year 2016, I'm starting to have my doubts that anyone could work on it, I made few calls and can't get straight answers from any Ferrari workshop , its always yes we can fix it bring it in, I need to make a decision as would love to keep it original factory, but its proving to be very difficult , so do I convert it to manual. Thank you everyone in advance Michael
Michael. Sorry to hear about this. It can be frustrating to diagnose these issues. I have a 93 Valeo that had some similar issues with knowing which gear. I was getting a tone in 1st cause it thought it was in 3rd. My tech (Tony from Scuderia Perfomante in Malvern PA) rebuilt the worn shift box and it solved the issue. Is your shift box "Spongy" Also, he has the SD1 software but had issues with finding a computer to run it as it's basically DOS. I can put you in touch with him to see if he can send you a copy. I would recommend getting the software for the shop and using that. The Potentiometer and the gear box Actuator are expensive if you can find them at all. My Actuator is actually sticky and Tony thinks he can rebuild it when I do my Major. Hope this helps and let me know if you want his info. Good Luck
Sorry to hear your experience Michael! I think Ferrari should have played transparrent with you. That is the first mistake. The second is putting in more hours then was mentioned. (I confirm always by email how many hours one can work on something. Anything that has been done and not in my email is free of service IMHO.) So making 2 mistakes and let you pay the bill.. Take your Mondi out of there and bring it somewhere else. I think it would be fair that you only would pay the 4 hours mentioned. Personally I would not throw parts at it if it is not clear what the issue is unless they bolt it off when it is not fixing the issue and do not charge you for the part. I guess that is not going to happen. But where do you bring it.. Getting a Dos computer from somewhere is fairly easy To find someone to do the repair is a different story.. fewer than 30 were imported in the U.S. from what I know. Saab uses a Sensonic transmission of Valeo. Similar but not the same. However, maybe a Saab technician has a better understanding of the mechanics of the Valeo clutch system. Worth a try or else jimzdancewicz's technician for at least a call.
Michael is from another island Tijn. An island with fewer Valeo Mondials I guess. Can you clearly discribe everything it does/doesn't. With all other factors (hot/cold, always/sometimes,....) Perhaps one of the other Valeo owners/connaisseurs can chime in and help you out. One thing is for sure, let the dealer immediatelly stop all activities on your car.
hahaha, yes good catch Bart! Btw Ferrari should always be able to fix it, but it has a price tag. Btw I love a Valeo but could not find one at the time.
Firstly, I would remove your car from the dealer immediately and ask that your money be refunded. The technicians that work on these new(er) model cars have never seen or hear of a Valeo, and believe that their knowledge of newer models is transferable to the Valeo system. The ONLY way to test the system is with the SD1. Throwing parts at the car, like the potentiometer and actuator are costly alternatives to truly diagnosing the problem at hand. I can almost ensure you that neither suggestion is the issue... Have you checked the 30amp fuse in the trunk that runs the Valeo ECU? Have you or the dealer investigated if 12v of current are present at the actuator? If the car does not have a steady 12v of current, it will not work correctly. Check the battery, alternator, and relays before you spend $10k on guess parts... Ask me how I know?
Hi ALL. It gives me a sense of relief that I've had a response form you guys. I'm definitely have decided not to go ahead with the repairs based on the experience and service etc. etc. trying to be nice on the web. I have asked service manager to email me a full summary of the work and diagnose to justify the huge fee to date no reply that been 2 weeks. Ok, this is the start, gear selection when engine off all good Problem, gear selection when COLD, thump in reverse, 1st gear thump, (( 2nd gear, 3rd)) if 2nd selects than no 3rd and the opposite way as well , 4th ok, 5th gear selection yes it just revs no go. When HOT loss of all gears with the exception only 4th gear ok and the rest are temperamental. its rather difficult and heartbreaking to drive car on 4th gear only. I agree with you guys the car need to come out of there, where do I take next. I would like to fix it properly like Bart said here in Sydney Australia seems impossible if any with SD1. Hi Alex, thanks to my Brother (Technician),yes fuses all check if not all had been replaced, the valeo fuse all good, had check Electrical system, new quality battery all good, gearbox oil, one thing I had to remove relay and wire it to by pass potentiometer to valeo ecu so able to start it. Alex, I'm asking how do you know?? Like Hank said on previous posts, the actuator its build like king Kong , I believe nothing wrong with it. It's good to hear you guys, James and Tijn have the right people to work on your Mondials someone you can trust. Thanks Again Michael
Hi Michael, Just a thought, being also a fellow Australian Mondial owner.... Why not post a question on the Australian section of Fchat asking if any other Mondi T Valeo owners are in Aust or also contact the Australian Ferrari club and ask if any other owners are on record that you then you might be able to contact and find the best independent Ferrari workshop in Australia that might have a better understanding of the less main stream cars.... I know the lads in the F/Chat Aust section can be a hard bunch to get any sensible help from at times.... as it is the Aust section of course and jokes aplenty but you might be lucky and one of the less joking members might send you a private message to assist. Just an Idea... it is hard to get help being in Australia I know... wish I lived closer to the great folks on the Mondial section as they are the ones that keep me going in the Fcar ownership comradery... Cheers, Rob.
Michael, how does the shift box feel? Is it tight or loose? (not sure if you can compare it to other T's or a 348). This being my first Ferrari, i was unfamiliar with how the shifter should feel. My Tech, Tony told me after the first visit that ,one seemed really loose and rebuilding it would solve much of the issues. He was right. Mine was having similar problems (especially when hot) due to some wear on the internal shift mechanism. One rebuilt, it shifts like new and cost roughly $900 to do. One thing Tony diagnosed early was that if the there is lots of extra play in the shifter, the sensors won't be able to select the correct gear. Again, it's been 100% perfect since the re-build. Perhaps connecting your tech (or another with a tech in the states) for some consult and software exchange could pay dividends. It might be worth a few hundred dollars in labor for the information exchange and software copy. Alex is right, the software is crucial to properly diagnosing the problem which is usually NOT the actuator or potentiometer in my very limited and short time with the Valeo. Happy to message you off line with more info. Good Luck! JZ
Frari has a T coupe with Valeo, and he's in Brisbane. At least you're all on the same coast. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/members/1352.html
Hi All Rob, Mate I noticed your from Melbourne pretty local for me Sydney, I'll give the team a try, before I start to calling workshop Australia wide. James, I have removed the gear box cover and check the clutch still in good condition possibly 60% life remaining, bearing spins freely, no metal fragment, as for gear selection, when it's ok to select gear smooth but firm, no lose feeling as such, but when not engaging it very hard you have to actually push hard for gear to engage as at time it may crunch and it rev no go, so which I'm quite careful not to do that, so I have to be quick to select another gear. thanks for offer some contact let try locally other wise definitely I'll be in touch. Wade, I have spoken to Tony he was the previous owner apparently no help where he is, just for ref I purchased the car from the auction. Cheers Michael
Okay, thanks. And I'm wishing you the best for a solution to your car's problem. A t Coupe with Valeo... so rare. And RHD as well?
Hello, I’m wondering if someone could possibly help. I have a Mondial t Valeo that starts however will not go into any gears forward or reverse. The last time I drove the car (prior to winter storage) it worked absolutely perfect. The fuse and relay are in working condition however I’m not sure what else to check or look for. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Did you check the 30amp fuse next to the value ECU? Try restarting the car a few times... It could be a failing ECU. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I replaced the relay and the fuse is ok, I’m wondering if hydraulic fluid could affect the shifting or is it all electronic?
