I noticed that my mondial's speedomter has a huge amount of error in it. It says I am going 5 to 10mph faster than I really am. I have stock tires and wheels so its not that. While I know it could be considered fun that my car is going "faster" now with this unwanted "mod", does anyone know how I can adjust this? I did a search and only found comment about a sending unit. Is that my only avenue?
    Thanks in advance

    Buy a German car...?!?

    LOL...!

Sorry, i don't mean to joke, but Italian cars are notorious for things like that - ESPECIALLY the Mondials...

I have had 7 Ferraris (still own 2). All the speedos were off, always generous. A couple were way off. My current 89 328 is about 5 MPH high at 60. My new 430 is only a couple of MPH high. Checked with radar, it's doing 58 when it says 60. A friend of mine with a 348 that was way off did get his calibrated by someone in New Mexico (Me-Ma-s?) and is now much better. For 5-10 over, I would just accept it. Oddly enough, my Subaru STI is also about 5 MPH over and the Lotus Elise I owned was also over. Perhaps it is a performance car thing!

All cars have optimistic speedometers. If you read 60 - count on 56-58 for most cars including all the new ones as well. The variance increases as the speed does. Any variance greater than that is excessive though.

No (speaking from experience), I replaced the sender in mine and still 8mph or so high when showing 50mph (actual speed is 42). Sender made no difference.

Hardtop dave, the shop you refer to is Moma (aka "Mo-Ma"):

I find the speedo in my 328 is just about 10% high at all speeds - which actually makes calculating true speed relatively easy.

One thing I have done with each Ferrari is take a stop watch and travel measured miles to calculate the actual MPH in high gear using the tach which is generally more accurate. Earlier manuals will list MPH/1K RPM in each gear. Generally, most 3X8's do about 60MPH at 3K and so on. I generally do not even look at the speedo, just the tach as a speed indicator. The measured mile will also tell you if the tach is off significantly which is not uncommon on 3.2 powered cars. I would do these measurements in several different places, however, because mile markers can be off too! Some people use portable GPS units to calculate speeds as well.
