I want to check the condition of my plugs and when I fitted a socket to the two plugs in with my tool kit they were 13/16ths. However when I go to take a plug out it does not seem to fit. When I look in the cavity in the head it appears to narrow down tightly around the plug at the bottom where the plug is and so I am thinking I need a thin wall socket, or that I need a metric one.

Any input is appreciated, now that I fixed my ignition problem (bad ignition module) I think I may have one bad plug as I still have a miss.

Sometimes the hex drive size is different on different brand/type spark plugs (even if they fit the same engine). Most likely your 3.2 plugs are an 18mm hex drive size (NGK "D..."), and, like you noted, you need a smallish OD too, although we never sorted this out exactly -- the stock F 18 mm spark plug socket is only 23 mm OD; 24mm OD would probably work; 25 mm OD would be questionable IMO, but may squeak by depending on your particular parts.

I found the sparkplug sockets sold at kragen for the import cars to work great. the Japanese autos have the same small wells for the plugs and require a long thin shaft - Okay that sounded like some porn script :O
