I have all hyperflow catless pipes on the car now. I was looking at these koening mufflers. They look like they hook directly up to the headers. My question is do the stock headers have bungs for 02 sensors? It looks like they do. Am I even on the right track with wanting to put these on my car - do they Fit?

    Koenigs will fit

How loud do you want it to be ?

I think Tubi has a nice sound

    Koenig & Ex-Ost are a lot louder

Many of these exhaust kits are running separate exhausts for left and right banks.
From what I have read (Correct me if I'm wrong) the stock exhaust system uses cross over pipes inside the muffler. This means running separated exhaust may reduce exhaust scavenging resulting in some power loss. Although most of as want better sound ;-)

Anyone do Dynamometer tests before and after exhaust mods?

    they say 20 HP

Reason I was interested because it looks like it gets rid of our pre-cat pipes, cats, and mufflers. So a little weight reduction also.

In this case (12 cil testa engine) it works the opposite and the example in the above drawing is just to reduce costs.

each 6 cyl. bank is already "cross overed" and crossing the 2 again will rob you from power, where you need it with a Ferrari. It will quiten a bit and give a little torque at low rpm though.

As with dyno tests: Is there a new race class with limited mods? What do you care in a case of this? If a sports exhaust gives you that little extra power, sound and looks, who cares for the exact numbers? You should enjoy it and RIDE it !!! That's where your testarossa is made for !

I agree that if your exhaust system gives you a little extra power and the sound you want, who cares about numbers, but it is not a bad idea to look at the HP (or better yet, torque curve) as I have seen exhaust modifications that cause a dip in the torque curve at low RPM right where you need it for acceleration.

VERY IMPORTANT POINT HERE. YOU CAN BENEFIT FROM MY EXPERIENCE. HERE IT IS:- IF YOU GO WITH A SPORTS EXHAUST IT NEEDS TO GIVE YOU AN INCREASE IN BHP (WHETHER SMALL OR LARGE). IF IT GIVES YOUR CAR LESS HORSEPOWER THAN THE OEM STOCK EXHAUST IT WILL END UP DAMAGING YOUR ENGINE IN THE LONG RUN.

Or you could just buy my setup and not stress about things fitting, O2 sensors, etc. It's all there...

No idea why it works for some and not others. Please go directly through FerrariAds and look under "Parts". It'll be near the top of the 1st page of listings (for now).

I'D BE MERELY SCRATCHING THE TIP OF THE ICEBERG BY ATTEMPTING TO EXPLAIN HOW MANY THINGS INSIDE THE ENGINE WOULD GET DAMAGED FROM CONTINUOUS USE OF A 'POWER LOSING' SPORTS EXHAUST. A FERRARI ENGINE IS LIKE A FINELY TUNED INSTRUMENT, A POOR ALTERATION SOMEWHERE WILL SIMPLY THROW IT OFF BALANCE. THE EXHAUST SYSTEM NEEDS TO HAVE THE CORRECT AMOUNT OF BACK PRESSURE TO PERFORM OPTIMALLY AND CORRECTLY. JUST IMAGINE FOR EXAMPLE AN UNDERWATER DIVER SWIMMING UNDER THE OCEAN, HE NEEDS TO RECEIVE THE CORRECT AMOUNT OF AIR/OXYGEN WHILE HE'S DOWN THERE. TOO LITTLE OXYGEN AND HE IS LIABLE TO BECOME UNCONCIOUS, WHERE AS TOO MUCH OXYGEN WOULD SIMPLY BE DISASTEROUS. A SPORTS EXHAUST IS SIMILAR TO THIS SCENARIO - THINK OF IT AS A KIND OF BALANCING ACT.

I don't kwow who told you that story.... It is just an engine. The only things special is the configuration -a flat 12, there aren't so many of it and that the parts are expensive because you sponsor a formula one team. It has internals like any other engine and in case of the rods, valves, springs and crank of very good materials that can have much more stress BUT the power output per litre of displacement is lower than a 1600 Rabbit GTI of 1980. It even has just the same fuel management. It is a bulletproof engine if it is maintained and adjusted properly. It even hasn't radical cam timing. This engine can take a lot and if you ever heard of an exhaust problem, the cause would have been obstructed cats but certainly not from less backpressure.
There just are too many stories out here in Ferrari land...
Everytime I read the same copy/pasted statements of pure bull, like early, when Kramer started his issues with the witch hunts.

Looks like fear rules here too like in a lot of things....

It isn't more a tuned instrument like any other engine

TELL THAT TO POOR roytoy2003 IN THE LAMBOCHAT SECTION. HIS RECENTLY ACQUIRED DIABLO SE30 JOTA HAD A STRAIGHT THROUGH PIPE (NO MUFFLER) EXHAUST SYSTEM WHICH SOUNDED GREAT BUT LOST SOMETHING IN THE REGION OF 100 BHP COMPARED TO THE STOCK EXHAUST. IT DID UNTOLD MINOR DAMAGE TO AREAS OF THE ENGINE THAT HE HAD TO HAVE FIXED BY HIS MECHANICS. LUCKILY IN THIS CASE IT WAS SUCCESSFULLY REPAIRED AND BACK TO IT'S FORMER GLORY. I REPEAT AGAIN IT WAS FIXED.

An engine, ANY engine is just a big air pump. The more air you can get in and out the more HP it will make.

    +1

I can't think of a single reason why a straight through exhaust should have any damaging effect on the engine. I also can't believe that an engine would loose 100bhp from its 4-500 bhp total. The more open the engine the easier it is for it to breathe = >bhp.

    Strange I think.

In this case, a testarossa, speaking of only the "muffler" (people call it exhaust but we all use the original exhaust manifolds that create the kinetic energy to scavenge the gasses, or suck the frehs air throug at low rpm) an open muffler cannot damage the engine.

Always check mixture settings after any change..

This exhaust mod = power loss issue has been discussed to death in the past. There is a line that can be crossed, where too little back pressure will result in power loss...where that line is or how we can measure it - nobody says. But yes....if you have too much flow you can actually loose power. Too much restriction also looses power. Nobody can seem to agree on where the threshhold is between loss and gain.

I know that Mr. Osib's comments seem confusing to some of you...but there is truth in what he is saying.

The TR motor is factory-designed to run with a full exhaust. So the fuel system and cam timing have been set up for a somewhat restrictive exhaust flow. When a really free flowing exhaust system is installed, you can loose power. This happens because there is TOO MUCH EXHAUST SCAVAGING....where too much flow actually pulls out some of the incoming air-fuel charge. There can also be too big of and exhaust pipe where velocity is too slow...and therefore scavaging is also reduced. So there is more than one way to screw things up.

You can install a better flowing exhaust, adjust the fuel injection system, and adjust the exhaust cams to the European specs....(you CANNOT run cat convertors though)....and you will get some extra horsepower...maybe 10 or 15 at best.

But even with these things done.....too much scavenging or too slow velocity can still take away some power. The TR cam profiles just arent that radical. The TR was designed with emissions compliance in mind. And there isn't much room for improvement in regards to power. You CAN get better throttle response and maybe quicker reving....and though that may not show up on a dyno graph....that will result in a better driving and performing car.

Bottom Line...the factory system really isn't too bad power-wise....but it totally sucks sound-wise. Hollowing out the precats and removing the cats...will get you a quicker reving motor with a slight power increase. But you can't go totally crazy and expect big power gains. The foundation for that just isn't there.

This is all just my opinion of course....been there...done that....

I am confused... What do you guys think I should do??? I have the Tubi, last week I had my muffler guy measure everything and he was going to make pipes to eliminate the cats. Do you think I should keep everything the way it is? The Tubi has nice sound on higher rpm, but not much at the lower end.

HERE YOU GO - SIGNIFICANT POWER LOSS AT THE FLYWHEEL. A 600 BHP DIABLO SE30 JOTA PRODUCING 447 BHP AT THE FLYWHEEL. SHOULD BE PRODUCING AT LEAST 520 BHP AT THE FLYWHEEL. THIS IS THE CAR I WAS REFERRING TO IN MY LAST RESPONSE. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gVitlSbqPU[/ame]
