Hey all, I had an interesting experience at my dealer. I was told because of my aftermarket suspension, and wheels the dealer is denying my warranty request to fix an alignment issue of the roof system. I was told if they submit the warranty claim as is Ferrari would void my warranty completely because of the mods.

The backstory is I’m new to Ferrari ownership (1year) , my car is an out of province / state car bought from another dealer so don’t have a relationship with them.
I’ve chosen to pay out of pocket for the repair but curious as to what others are experiencing out there.

Unfortunately true, Ferrari (but not only) denies warranty when cars are modified.
Also if cars are not serviced within the official dealer network, or if cars are not serviced each year.
Happens most of the time, but not always.

The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act protects us from such nonsense in the USA,but it sounds like you are in Canada.

+1 they would have to prove a connection for the modified part causing the issue trying to be covered under warranty in order for them to deny work. The entire warranty cannot be denied due to aftermarket parts. https://apb-law.com/understanding-magnuson-moss-act-relates-aftermarket-car-parts/

How would Ferrari HQ know of a modification that has no link whatsoever with the parts to be covered under warranty?
To me that's the dealer playing the corporate agenda - unless it's illegal they have the right to do so, but claiming they must because of Ferrari sounds like BS to me.

The official dealer MUST fill in all car data into the Modis System (factory system). Without that zero claim for warranty can be made.

I guess this is the roof system of the OPs Portofino out of alignment, and Ferrari is denying because of modifications to the suspension and wheels. That sounds reasonable to me. It's a complex metal roof, tested to work within the twist tolerances of the car that goes with it. If you fit different suspension, that could credibly cause problems with roof alignment. Even if the mods are not the cause, they could be.

That's different to a mod that is patently unrelated to a defect, like aftermarket wheels and a ECU, for example.

You could easily drive the car hard enough that it would twist and bend just as much on the stock suspension as if it was on Novi springs. That dealer is full of it. Plenty of authorized Ferrari dealers across the world install these simple bolt-ons. No warranty issues from Maranello. Hell, my Ferrari dealer which happens to be one of the largest in Europe is also the official Capristo and Novi distributor for my country. Yes, they frown upon ECU mods, but wheels, springs, brake pads and exhausts? Never. This is just as ridiculous as dealers trying to weasel themselves out of warranty claims because the tyres aren't OE or the exhaust back box has been changed. Proper jerks!

Update - I wanted to close the loop on my experience at FoV. The assessment was a roof repair at 8 hours (the hope was to re-bend the bent roof brackets) or buy a new roof at $18k. I approved the repair knowing if it goes wrong I’ll be in for an expensive bill.

Luckily (for me) they we’re successful in repairing the bent brackets and used another Portofino in the shop to align the roof operation into spec. What a relief! It clear something happened with the roof system prior to my ownership, just glad I have the right people working on it.

My faith is completely restored, so much so I brought my f430 in to get some much needed repairs done. The lesson here is to not blow your top when things don’t go your way and always work towards a resolution
