Half of the Phillies on IR and the other half stink
Bob if the Phils had the Dodgers bullpen that have 10 more wins. Take a look at last Friday vs. Atlanta...gave up 5 runs in last 2 innings blowing a four run lead
Jason, I know what the "official" explanation is, but trust me, it was not mistaken identity. They knew who they were shooting and why.
now that nba is over, im starting to look into baseball. yankees are stacked! crazy line up and bullpen. starters not so great but can over come that when they only have to pitch 5 innings. game is sooo s l o w though. why cant they just have umpire keep batter in box without ridiculous timeouts and then make relief pitcher come in and pitch without warm ups. that could easily cut 1/2 hr off every game and not mess with tradition. seems easy fix to me
It's all the scoring that is lengthening the games. Last night I saw a minor-league game that ended as a 2-0 pitchers duel, and it only took 2:23 to do nine innings.
Yes I agree. Some of it is for the TV commercial time that only comes during breaks. Local broadcasts are 2 minutes but national broadcasts are 2:30. IMO, basketball is much worse with breaks all the time stretching the games out. The charm to baseball is that it CHANGES during the game. Pitchers get tired, the batters get used to the pitcher, the relief pitchers come in, etc. The weather and sunlight also changes over time. I was at a minor league game on Thursday and our team was down 9-1 in the 3rd and came back to win 11-10 in the bottom of the ninth. About a 3 hr 30 minute game and I would say 80% of the people were still there at the end of the game. The minor leagues now have the 30 second pitching rule which makes sense if these guys are going to move the majors. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Perhaps. It'd be interesting to see some Sabermetrician do an analysis of game length for 1-0 games versus an average game...T
its ok for scoring, hits, etc to lengthen game time. its not ok for batter to step out every single pitch, adjust gloves, pitcher then steps off, ad nauseam. eliminate that is so easy. them how about relief pitcher has to pitch as soon as in game. no warm up needed. hes been warming up in bullpen. wasnt big deal when starters went 8 innings straight to closer. now its 5 innings with 4 relief pitchers. doing that will go long way to reasonable time limits for attention span.
Of course, if the event is too short, the fan will wonder if he got his money's worth. Today's Grand Prix took less than 1-1/2 hours, and while I recognize that a grandstand seat price is for the whole day's or whole weekend's activities, for the "main event" to be over that quickly makes one wonder whether it was worth the price. I always wondered about the high prices charged for ringside seats at a championship boxing match, where the "main event" could be over in less than half a minute!
Hallelujah! Former Met, David Wright, I love him, but holy cow, I wanted to strangle him with all his in-between pitch machinations. T
Can't believe you didn't bring this up Mayor. https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mlb/girl-arrested-for-bellinger-hug-calls-it-best-day-ever/ar-AADlFRu?ocid=spartandhp Tweet— Twitter API (@user) date
Reminds me of the only All-Star game I ever attended, years ago in Seattle. Morganna got on the field and gave Pete Rose a hug and kiss before being led away, to the cheers of the crowd (mixed with boos for the security guys)!
