Tough call. MLB coaches either run pitchers too long or too short. I suspect the concern was Greinke would give up a big couple runs if he stayed in too long so they switched. To me the idiot move was sing Harris back to back nights when he was already pretty spent. Cole would have been unusual, but a better choice IMO. Shorten up Osuna then go Urquidy for two. But hindsight as they say...

yes. this is why we need computer called balls and strikes. Umpires have an impossible job with pitches at or near 100 mph.

still need an umpire behind the plate to call foul balls, hit batsmen, and whether a man is safe or out at home plate.

too many batters called out looking at a ball that the umpire calls a strike.

    my two cents.

I hate to say it but you may be correct at least in playoffs -- but not the regular season. Look at how many reversals there are at first base. Many of these would have completely changed the game. So replay is good as it gets the call correct.

But during the season you can see some umps have different strike zones than others. Its the job of the pitchers and the hitters to adjust. Is it right? Maybe not. A computer would be 100% the same for everyone every time. But do we lose something organic and even strategic in the process? I think so.

Baseball is a very mechanical game. There are exact dimensions and measurements. There are no "penalties". The success or failure of every event is extremely simple to understand and calculate. And some of the rules, such as a balk, are from actions so minute you need 3 experts to explain what the pitcher did wrong in slow motion. But the rule still is clear. Technically an AI computer could replace every ump. But would it be a better game or just a more accurate one?

The only replay I thought was ridiculous was the slide at 3rd base in Game 7. CLEARLY he beat the tag. But they agonized for minutes "if" he slid off for a part of a second while stopping. Stupid. In the end they didn't call him out but it was just a total waste of time. There was no way they could possibly call someone out in that situation.

I looked closely at the game 6 "running inside the baseline" call. That was really, really a difficult call but I think the call was correct. The batter ran inside the baseline until the last step where he was hit by the ball. The rules are clear about running in the baseline. In the end it didn't matter but it could have been a critical call -- and the umpire made the right call on the spot without "replay". And a gutzy call by the umpire in the situation.

Instant replay is also slowing the game down, which doesn't need to get any slower. I still think that after 11 innings if the game is tied, they should go to Home Run Derby format. I think the fans would love it instead of going home at 1 in the morning and not knowing who won the game until the next day.
