From your experience, what is the minimum temperature at which tires start to have a decent grip?
At which temperature do you get optimal grip and are you able to push hard (and in confidence)?
At which temperature tires get too hot?
Also, what is the optimal tire pressure?
    thanks!

    how long is that string?

depends on track, tyre, weather, car, driver, pressure in relation to tyre brand etc etc etc etc etc.....

sure, it depends... but I would appreciate some guideline- whatever the track, weather, etc... it seems there is a point where the "tires start to work". I have Bridgestone Potenza tires, from my experience, at 50F grip is nonexistent, at 70F grip start to improve and above 100-120F grip start to plateau.
But I am not an expert driver, so would love to get others experience (and since the 458 shows the tire temperature, I believe it is useful info to better understand when I can start to push more safely).

I can tell you that in my 599 I look for tire temps of 100+ Front and 95+ rear. If the surface temp is 50/55 it is difficult to get to these temps without a lot of high speed running and yes, you will slip and slide if you push your car without sufficient tire temp.

Mayby you can do something with spreadsheets and things I discoverd when being busy with calculating tire-pressure.
    http://cid-a526e0eee092e6dc.office.live.com/self.aspx/.Public/pressurecalculationwithtemp.xls
This spreadsheet I made especially for races where the inside tire-temperature can get 90 dgr Celcius, so I read. At the top in part one you can calculate the needed pressure with the system the tire-manufacturers in Europe also use.
In part 2 I asume the pressure warm (90dgr) for races, must be the same as calculated for normal inside tire temperature ( about 45 dgr C) , and calculates what the pressure has to be cold to become warm the same . In the english version I calculate with degrees Fahrenheit and psi. The Dutch version ( my native language) in Degr C and Bar.
From this link you can navigate my complete public map of hotmail for more spreadsheets and articles.
But lately opening the sheets has become more difficult, because some browsers try to open thenm in the browser, in wich they dont work. You have to download and open them directly in Excell or open office Calc to work with them.
