I think you are talking about "A New Leaf" with Walter Matthau. The car was a Ferrari 275GTB.

I seem to remember a John Candy movie that had a GTO, maybe. It could be "Delerious", but I could be wrong.

How he was driving the car suggests it was NOT a real one.

A poster of "A New Leaf" occupies a prominent spot in one of the writer's buildings at Paramount. Aside from the opening, my favorite scene is one where he shouts "Don't let them out!" - Matthau never sounded more like, well... Matthau than that moment.

As I suspected. You are a man of taste, well educated and able to quote the classics.
I still cringe at the thought of Extra Heavy Malaga.

I'll look for that... Should we start a thread with famous Ferrari scenes? Wasn't the pilot for teh 60's "GET SMART" made with a 250PF (or was it a Cali?) Spyder?

    Might be fun-

I just watched the scene from 'New Leaf' and was quite disappointed when he started the car and drove it out of the garage...wrong exhaust note. The sound is definitely a V8 not a V12. Tsk, Tsk.

Here's a question, have any real GTO's been used in movies? If one had been used, it would have to be a movie from the period when they weren't so valuable!

Found an opening clip on Youtube ==> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVYBYI_VEAc

His shoe phone goes off at the opera (ironically contemporary today...) and after shooting his way out of the closet he locked himself in to take the call with the Chief, he proceeds to his Ferrari to drive quickly all the way to Control HQ.

It's funny to me since this was my #1 show growing up.
