It was an interesting last few laps. That restart after the safety car turned the tide for the Alternate Strategy. I held my breath for a moment when that contact made Mick's car hop, but no damage and he continued to move up the field nicely with no mistakes. Importantly for tomorrow he'll be starting P4 with both Ilott and Shwartzman out of the top 8. Good chance to extend his points lead. Bummer for Shwartzman with his mechanical issue.
Nice results...cue the theme from "Rocky" but let's not believe that he is some white knight riding to the rescue of Ferrari.
If anybody does ride to the rescue of Ferrari, it won’t be a driver. We have great young driving talent. It’s not enough.
Now he is coming into the game. Has much improved and with the lead in the championship a F1 door might soon open. And that would be deserved.
Driving talent is NOT enough, one needs car development talent, Michael, Ross, and Jean brought that to Ferrari, and it still took them years to become dominant. The ability to practice and test every day was important in this effort. I, still, can't see why Ferrari votes for the various testing and development bans.
They have a vote! whether this constitutes a real choice or not is debatable. But they have voted in favor of the test ban; meaningless or not.
Well, if they voted for the test ban, they have no case to complain then. Ferrari has even a veto, so not using it is endorsing the rules, IMO.
Latest rumor has it that Mick will make his F1 debut at the Nuerburgring: Friday morning practice session in an Alfa We'll see. Would be fitting at a track just a stone throw away from the family's gokart track where it all began.
Well, If I can shed some light. Michael won 2 WDC titles with Benetton, along with his team(Brawn, Todt, Bryne). Then Michael took his team to Ferrari and won 5 more WDC titles along with WCC titles. There was unlimited testing as well for all teams. Michael new more than the engineers...."analog" era. Very very hard to do or "emulate" Michael in this "digital" era. Today, the engineers know alot more than the driver. Italy car manufacturers are NOT into hybridization. German car manufacturers are into hybridization...hence as to why Mercedes AMG F1 is dominating....plus engine freezes and tokens don't help matters in this hybrid era (2014 to current). The era's is like comparing a Casio calculator watch to an Apple iPhone 11 or Galaxy Note 11...the latter doing ALOT more for the user......"end of line."
Yep, that's pretty much the consensus here on the forum with regards to what was F1 then to what F1 is now. Unfortunately, Ferrari looks to be like this for next year as well. Schumacher and Alesi memorbilia....very nice.
Nice P3 in Quali for Mick today. He continues to look better each weekend as this season draws to a close. Mid-season I did not think he was showing the form to be a leading candidate for a move to F1, but now it might be a real possibility. Looking forward to tomorrow's F2 Feature Race. Mick has had very good race starts of late, hoping he has another.
