I was killing some time and channel surfing this afternoon and ran across Miami Vice "Viking bikers from hell" episode near the end. There was an action scene which gives some pretty good air time to the TR bodied Pantera they used for stunts and big action scenes. It's pretty obvious when you see the wheels that its the stunt car, but I was pretty surprised at the overall dimensions/body of the car. I wonder if they used actual OEM panels or what. And it would be interesting to know whatever became of the car.
there's a miami vice thread with pics and details on the car, the body panels were supposedly molded from the TR and used on the pantera chassis but IMO they are not quite right in porportions
I would estimate the width difference in the rear, between a TR & a DeTomaso Pantera of at LEAST "1" FOOT!!!.....Mark
They were close. But not quite. I'm sure the non-Ferrari-enthusiast would never notice. There is one higher angle shot where the "TR" spins out bringing the rear around to the camera and its very obvious in the forms of the strakes and haunches over the rear wheels. And the deep inset chrome wheels are really apparent. (Pic 1.) Probably they preferred to keep the chase scenes to night time.. helped to hide things. But if they got too close to it and its stationary even that couldnt hide the switch to the stunt car. (Pic 2.) But it was made for TV... I am sure they didnt think in their wildest dreams it would be scrutinized a quarter-century later by Ferrari fans... Fabulous show. Still watch the DVDs. +1 Who would have thought 2 decades later we would all notice the obvious, nothing Ferrari on the Pantera stunt car except maybe the nose badge. Still my favorite all time classics. Miami Vice CD always ready in my TR.
