I'm looking to buy a newer car. My occasional driver now is a Lexus 2000 LS400. A great car. But my girlfriend will be moving in someday and we will go to just one car as I drive my truck most days. So for her I want to consider a S430 or a S500 4matic. (AWD). She will like it in the snow plus it is a manly car so I can drive it also. :)

I prefer this over any type of SUV etc.

The Lexus has been an exceptional car. Any one have any input on the S class Mercedes? Good and bad.

I am fairly knowledgeable on this topic as my Father drives an old body style S600, and prior to this he had a cl500, and I drive a clk430 so I have spent a lot of time around both motors and the S class you are looking at. First thing is first the 430 is a great motor, but in an s-class fairly sluggish. Spend the extra and get a 500, as it also have a number of standard features that are options on the 430. On going with a 4 matic this is a tough call. Many of the later cars 05/06 had 4-matic and the sport package which causes the 4 matic to be useless in the snow, but good for rain. You will need SNOW TIRES. These cars are cheap today, and getting cheaper every year buy the newest one you can afford with the most warranty remaining. Get one with the 7 speed transmission and larger DVD based nav 05+ IIRC. PM me if you need any more information. Go to www.benzworld.org for more information then you ever wanted ;)
