I recently purchased a 1985 308 GTS. It needs a major service after 14 years in storage. I'm looking for a great mechanic in Salt Lake City area. Thx.

You and me both. Ferrari of SLC has been very disappointing. They're wayyyy understaffed (read: takes months to get an appointment) and the guy who really knew the vintage cars has been on a long leave. I posted here a few weeks ago and got no local reccos. I'm at the point where it makes just makes sense to ship the car to a great shop I know of in Monterey (after car week). I'd rather spend the money to ship and have the car fixed the first time on a predictable timetable. Probably will be a wash money-wise.

Denver is much closer to you than Monterey. I suggest you drive the car to Denver, drop it off with Dave Helms at Scuderia Rampante or Bill Evenden at Maranello Motorworks, and fly home on a cheap ticket. They are among the best Ferrari independents in the country and I have used both. When the car is done, reverse the process. A round trip ticket will be a fraction of the cost of shipping a car. Only problem is that right now a service appointment will have to be made about 2 months out. If you wait until October or November, they'll be able to take the car almost immediately and complete the job probably within a week or two. You can drive the car back to SLC before the serious snow flies.

    round trip shipping to/from Monterey = $3,000+
round trip ticket to/from Denver = $300-ish (or less)

That's how I would do it.

Thanks, Dave. That would be an awesome plan, if not for the fact that the problem I'm trying to solve is intermittent stalling. The car won't make it to Denver.
But shipping the car to Denver and driving back is a possibility.

I spoke to Bill @ Maranello Motorworks. Great guy, super knowledgeable. I'm on Bill's schedule for the end of October. My plan is to trailer the car to Denver, unfortunately my enclosed trailer carries one car. If we can find a two car bumper pull trailer I can haul both cars to Denver. If you are interested let me know. I live in Sandy, Utah.
