Another strong day for McLaren - finishing 6th. Lando looks like he is the genuine article, and the car is running well. Mercedes thrust next year would be a godsend for a team that looks to be rapidly rising.

I’m enjoying rooting for the boys in orange this season

How humiliating it must be for McLaren to see Honda win its first F1 victory in 20 years with the engine and supplier they abandoned.

Remember when Honda had to go begging to Torro Rossa for a chance after McLaren dumped them?

I'm guessing RB is pretty happy now McLaren gave up their exclusive 10 year deal with Honda.

The future of the association between Red Bull and Honda is based on the expectation of constant success.
If Honda doesn't provide engines that put RB firmly in winning circles, Marko predicted that Mateschitz would close both teams and walk away.
I don't think he meants sporadic or opportunistic wins like today, but more championships like during their Vettel era.
We have yet to see if Honda can supply that.

The issue is that RB has a different way of working with Honda than McLaren did.

Wonder what the deal is like for RBR empire? Free engines for both teams?

There is continuity of management at Red Bull, unlike at McLaren.

Still cheaper than supplying half the driver salary of both drivers.

Oh, definitely. For single lap pace they're the least powerful. Renault's latest upgrade seems to have given them great power, for a brief period. We can see that in quali and occasional use in the race, but can't use it all the time yet.

There'll be penalties to come from Honda, but it's not like they didn't know. So long they keep the engine failures to a minimum and development pace up, it's starting to look better.

Red Bull total wage bill (RB + TR) is around $13M a year.

Supplying free engines for both team would be more costly for Honda than paying half that wage bill, I would have though.

max gets more than 13m by himself so not sure where those figures come from. + bonus, but I guess the bonus won't matter much for their 3 other drivers so a bit of a mute point...;)

Those are FIA figures, according to what the team declared (in Euros)

    Verstappen 11.5M €
    Gasly 1.15M €
    Kvyat 0.27M €
    Albon 0.15M €

    Total 13.07M € roughly $14.8M

Traditionally, Red Bull doesn't pay well.
Albon gets less than some F2 drivers.

their bonus structure is unmatched, however.

At the height of Vettel's time at Red Bull he got around 40 million a season...

    40m with the bonus.

IIRC his Ferrari deal was 45m per season when he first joined, with bonus to come on top of that.

I put it to you. Any chance Seidl is getting the team ready for a Porsche PU supply at mclaren? His choice to work there is a little puzzling

NO WAY Mercedes gives the same spec engine to McLaren they give to their own team. Mercedes is not going to let McLaren beat them using their own engine.
