In car video from a Mclaren M8F at the 2009 Kohler International Challenge at Road America. The video is of the Group 7 Qualifying race. The Mclaren won and put in a qualifying lap of 2:11.31. The car is powered by a 1,019 HP 598 Donovan big block.

I would love to bring the Mclaren to the SVRA event at NJMP Oct 1-4. The problem is Im also doing the SCCA National Championships the week before so it could be difficult to pull off the two events back to back. Logistically I probably could, but probably not at the homefront. The SCCA runoffs plus testing is probably a week and a half to two weeks by itself. Big bore Can-Am cars race in Group 7 with HSR and SVRA so there possibly could be some other Can-Am cars at NJMP. It's not a Can-Am specific even so it probably wont draw many though.

Here's a link to the Historic Can-Am association. The events on their schedule are likely to draw a lot of Can-Am cars. Mostly on the West coast for the rest of this year.

Oh will do, don't worry and I love the Can Am cars!!!!!! ... but they NEVER had 1000 hp, and I'm not into improving old race cars that are now really racing for fun. It's distorting history.

I would give my left nut to own a McLaren Can Am car, heck any Bruce McLaren car infact!

I don't know if you were talking about Can Am cars in general but Porsche 917/30s had over 1100 hp. Anyone have more details or info on McLaren entries?

Actually the Shadow DN2 had 1,200 HP, the Porsche 917/30 was 1,100 - 1,500 hp depending on boost. Typically they ran whatever boost setting got them the pole, then 1,100 for the race. Mclarens were generally about 750 hp. In the early '70's the rulebook was wide open, the cars had to have two seats and four wheels, that was about it. There were no limitations what so ever on engines. Displacement, fuel, induction, metals were completely open. Even the number of engines was free, one car had four. Not to worry though, I also have the period correct 750 hp engine in good running condition.

Fantastic video... It's nice to see an in-car video with some quality to it.

Don't know much about Can Am, but get a general idea by how late you're getting on the gas out of each corner...LOTS of power to handle there. :)

During the pace lap...when the car lagged behind a bit and then punched it.... Crazy.

But certainly in the spirit of the original series. I'll bet Denny & Bruce would have sure loved that motor.
Thanks for sharing, be careful with that monster.
