McLaren hasn't "lost its way". They took a gamble with Honda. Honda hasn't delivered, yet.

Well, I think the team is in decline, and I fear it will not recover.

The loss of sponsors means a smaller budget, a reduced technical teams and less chances to recover.

Williams experienced the same after a golden era and also never recovered its glory.

McLaren used to be among the 3 top team in F1; it's gone now.

"Honda hasn't delivered, yet", what? After 3 years? Do you believe in miracles?

I think Honda has lost the plot, frankly and they are not very honest about their failure to deliver the goods.

In terms of power and reliability, I cannot see much progress over the last 3 years.

+1 William. I think that Team Williams is in survival mode--treading water until the formula change. I hope that they haven't lost the will to win.

I disagree. "Losing their way" is not the original Honda deal

    It's the current MERCEDES deal.

Honda to run new engine in Austria

Honda will bring another engine upgrade to the next race in Austria.

Although the Japanese manufacturer looks set to be dumped by its works partner McLaren, Honda took a minor upgrade to Azerbaijan last weekend.

And now, Honda chief Yusuke Hasegawa says the long-awaited 'specification 3' unit is due to run in Austria next weekend.

"In the meantime, we will continue our development with our best efforts in order to continue closing the gap," said the Japanese.

However, McLaren and its drivers do not sound upbeat about the future with Honda.

Despite the improvement, Stoffel Vandoorne said Honda was clearly the least powered engine in the field on the long Baku straight.

"We were faster than the Saubers but we could not do anything against them on the straight," he told the Belgian broadcaster RTBF.

"I think with the power deficit that we have, the team deserved its first points after a very difficult period for us.

"But there is still a lot of work to be done," Vandoorne added. "We are still a long way behind."

Honda stronger in 2018 says Hasegawa

Honda is confident it is finally making progress in formula one.

That is despite intense speculation that the struggling Japanese manufacturer's works partner since 2015, McLaren, is close to instigating a divorce.

However, there are in fact signs that things at Honda are finally improving.

Amid a flurry of component changes and penalties in Baku, the marque tested its long-awaited 'specification 3' engine in Baku.

Said to be worth 30 horse power, it will now make its race debut in Austria next weekend.

"We thought that in Baku, as we are so far behind and with the circuit characteristics, it would be difficult to score points," Honda chief Yusuke Hawegawa told Speed Week.

"So we used specification 2 and saved the new version for Fernando (Alonso) for Austria," he added.

As for the suggestions of a 30hp boost, Hasegawa answered: "It is in the right direction, although not enough to reach the level of the other engine manufacturers.

"But things are getting better at Honda. We will be stronger in 2018."

Expect 2 Sauber-Honda to be on the front row at the first 2018 GP maybe?

I won't hold my breath until then ...

Heck they design and build new versions of Honda Civics faster. How can they not understand F1 so badly, especially when they have been there and done it all before?

    Don't get it.

I have lost hope of Honda performing well in F1.

I think Alonso shares that thought ...

Poor Stoffel Vandoorne is wasting his time, and probably his career is already ruined.

The wasted years at McLaren won't look good on his CV, I think.

His market value is plummeting after each GP.

After his promises in GP2, his career need rescuing urgently before a new wave of hotshots reaches F1.

No surprise. Same thing RB went through three years ago. And I doubt Renault is going to help them out either.

So another three years of this after this season. They will lose Alonso and start losing key staff. Looks like another Williams in the making..

Opening up testing would solve so many problems in F1.

Considering the rivalry that has existed between Ferrari and McLaren over the years, including the whole Spygate episode, and the acrimony that that was created when McLaren split with Mercedes, is it really any surprise that neither team feels a desperate need to bale McLaren out now?

As the old saying goes: "You reap what you sow!"

If I was McLaren, I would pull the plug on F1, and concentrate on the GT, with maybe an attack on the WEC.
