    taken from another website...

"3.68 Million USD. That's the amount reached yesterday at RM's Automobiles of London auction for a mint McLaren F1. This money was swapped for chassis 065 which has lived a pampered life with an immaculately maintained history.

065 was one the last of the road-going cars and was used as showcar in McLaren's own Park Lane showroom. In 2004, 065 was sold to its first owner once the showroom closed. Since this time, the car has only racked up 484 kms on its odometer. Despite the low mileage it has been to McLaren for a full service.

Such a phenomenal car fetching such a demanding price is a sign that blue chip cars don't falter under any economy and are solid investment. If this sale is any indication of the future, then we are likely to see more Big Macs on the block soon."

Id guess anywhere around the $6 million range. Probably more.

If the Sultan ever let go of his 2 Black LMs, they would go for probably $8 million +

Depending on condtion. And I'd bet they are in need of some extensive repairs.

I guess the question is now, will this car be kept as a showcase car, or will it be driven more often?

Peloton25 and a few others usually have the history of each of the F1's on the tip of their tongues.

As noted in what's been presented so far, this was the Park Lane McLaren showroom car from the time it was built in 1997 until they removed it for sale at the end of 2003. At that time it was given a complete refresh by the McLaren factory. In 2004 it was sold for a price that at the time was reported to be £1M (equal to about $2M USD at the time) ending up in Singapore. Once there it spent most of its time in the Automobil Manufactur showroom. They are the official importer of Paganis as well. It was displayed once at the DreamCars Asia show and gained roughly 300kms from the time it left the London showroom. It's probably one of the freshest original examples of the F1 that exists.

While the price is indeed jaw dropping, I don't think this will set the new standard for F1 prices. Each F1 is fairly unique in its history and condition. This price was high even for the quality of F1 this is (one of the best for sure) but from the sounds of things the number was driven up in a bidding war between two individuals who both very much wanted to own this F1. The guy who didn't win will be able to find another one for about a million less and if he wants, can spend another $200,000-$300,000 or so having the factory do a complete refresh on it to suit his own tastes and he'll still be ahead of the game.

Agree for all 'practical' purposes. Though if you're angling for the last new car sold, it's the only game in town, yes?

It must be a selling point for some people I guess.

Personally, I'd be happy to get my hands on almost any of them regardless of the date of sale or amount of use they had seen, so long as the car was still in fairly good condition overall. Assuming I had the money to purchase one, then I am sure I would have the additional resources to take care of any issues. The fact that the cars are still fully supported by McLaren themselves means that any issue could be resolved for a price.

I think a car like this one has more value for someone who plans to keep it in its current condition as a museum-piece. I've seen claims that this particular car will be used and others that it won't. If the former is the case, I suspect we will know it to be true fairly quickly. If the latter is the case, I find it disappointing. These cars were meant to be driven!

Is that really a record for a F1? Didn't a LM sell for more then that at some point?

I believe the implication is that the price is a record for an F1 road car specifically, not a record price for all variations of McLaren F1s. Indeed it is about a million more than the highest price I have heard of being paid for any other F1 road car and double what the most expensive F1 road cars were exchanging hands for as recent as three years ago.

It is true that Ralph Lauren reportedly payed more a few hundred thousand more for the F1 LM he now owns.

Did you all hear where McLaren promised Lewis Hamilton the Mclaren F1 from the factory floor if he wins 3 world titles?

Yes - was just coming to post that. Seems the 10:54 clip was from a different camera and different angle. That one goes briefly past when the hammer falls.

Yes - we have an active thread on it in the FChat Racing & Tracking forum with more detail:

    Cool Hamilton bonus from McLaren
