I’ve had my 2022 Maserati MC20 for a couple years now. Still am in love with it. I’m ecstatic with the car except for that it’s a pig with too much weight and the fact that they advertise it for much less really pisses me off. It weighs about 3,800 pounds. It’s about 450 pounds more than they say. Ferrari and others have done similar, but I have never heard of this much of a discrepancy!

But the truth is all new sportscars and supercars like MC20 are at least 3200lbs except maybe a few McLarens. I have grown to except it and consider it extra safety, especially after I saw that MC20 that wrecked and its rear subframe was separated from carbon fiber tub. The MC20 must have a very impressive safe tub!
As far as lightening the car, I’ve taken off 33 pounds by putting in a lithium battery. And I think I shaved 1.5 lb of unsprung weight with my titanium lug conversion LOL
I have a nice cat back Novitec exhaust made out of Iconel that saved a few pounds, but mostly gave me more power, a deeper sound and actually keep the rear baggage compartment area cooler.
Other mods are, I took my car to the Girodisc headquarters and they measured up my OEM iron brake set. I have their amazing iron rotors and I’m using racing brake pads. I also put in racing brake fluid. Brakes are so awesome now.
I was able to add some negative camber and I put on Novitec Springs but it lower the car too much so I make up 4 aluminum spacers Which brought the car back up to stock ground clearance, but gave me stiffer springs.
I put 10 mm wider tires on both the front and back on the stock wheels. I also had some custom BC Forged wheels made up in the 19 inch size for the race track so I can have a better selection and less price for tires I want to use on the racetrack.
I have tracked the car about 14 times on four different racetracks. I’ve also done three supercar rallies with it and I have 14,000 total miles on the car. It’s been awesome. The only real problem I had is the axle bolts snapped on one side and had to tow it to the dealership, but it was a warranty issue and a recall issue and They replaced the bolts with stronger ones. Apparently I’m not the only one that had it break. When it happened, it was amazing because it was the day after I finished 10 days of Gold Rush Rally and it was just 4 miles!!! What good fortune!!

Anyway, anybody that knows me knows that this is the lightest amount of mods I’ve done to one of my street/racetrack cars. But it’s nice that I don’t have to do much to this car. I think I figured it out how to get the best:
    0-60 (2.9 so far)
    Quartermile 10.8
Racetrack road course tracking ( gone fast!)
Maybe top speed? (203mph w/2 people full luggage)
Most speeding tickets in one day (2 in Canada! But they were small ones and they didn’t go on my record and I just paid $125 fine on each one of them and both of them were each hearsay tickets amazingly In Canada police can give you a ticket. Someone else said they saw your car speeding. No pacing, no radar just hearsay is enough

Bottom line, the bottleneck of this car is the relatively skinny tires for the weight of the car!
Any 3800 pound car with only 245s on the front and 305s on the rear is not going to be that fast on the road course.
After the first set of tires, I put on tires that were 10 mm wider: 245s and 315s and I added negative camber and stiffer springs. But it’s still not enough tire. So I’m going to try to fit tires that are 20 mm wider each than OEM: 265s and 325s.
Pretty sure that’s gonna do it. Don’t get me wrong, the car is already fast now I’ve done a 1:29.0 lap time at my local racetrack (Qlispe Raceway (Formerly Spokane County Raceway))
Which is smoking fast for a street car. But I could just feel the car needs wider tires.

Here’s some tracking videos and track photos from this month. Also of my 1:29.0 lap

Great to see that you're actually using the car in ways which are probably beyond what was originally intended and that it's holding up pretty well.

Thanks it’s been very reliable car. It’s so easy to drive. It can be a daily driver. And then when you put it in Corsa mode, it becomes an animal.

I think the reason supercar manufacturers put relatively skinny front tires is on is that it makes it easier to turn the steering wheel for the driver!

Most supercar owners don’t track their cars and don’t push it to the limits. So the manufactures go for comfort.

Thanks, Tom, for posting up about your ownership experiences and tracking. I've been looking hard at MC20's, narrowed down to a coupe in yellow or white, would prefer a 2023 M Y but I think I'll now recognize the right one when it presents itself.

    Keep posting up! :D

  5. Nice.

Good to see you enjoying the car.

How do you like the Tremec DCT in the MC20?

Thanks I’m glad you enjoyed it
    14,000 miles and all smiles!!
You can’t go anywhere without people coming up to you and telling you how beautiful your car is!!
If you’re looking to get a coupe just make sure it’s got the options you want!
    Close to must haves:
    Front suspension lifter
    Upgraded stereo
    Nice options:
Carbon fiber everywhere you can get it inside and the roof Unless you want a solid color roof.
But I would not get the external carbon fiber package if it gets damaged at all from road rash it’s hard and very expensive to repair!
I really like the coupe as you can see the engine and it looks better.

Funny thing between the 2022 and 2023 models might sound silly but only the 2022 has that beautiful elegant mode selector That looks like an expensive wristwatch. I rest my hand on it a lot and it just feels like money!!
The 2023 went to a digital thing that is OK but it’s not elegant.
But the 2023s have an option for a 360 camera, which would be nice.
Other options I have are the electronic differential Which is awesome for really putting your power down I also have the iron brake set up that saved me $10,000 and is better brakes than the carbon fiber if you drive the car or track it.
and side traffic lane alert is nice.

just got this nice picture given to me today…. Makes me feel like a ******* American Italian hero!

Transmission and differential are amazing. I do have the electronic Differential option.

Transmission is awesome. People say it’s the same thing as the Corvette but it’s not. It’s got Maserati programming.

I love my MC20. I just wish there were more Performace upgrades for it. I have done the Catback Exhaust. Its needs a ECU Tune and a new Air Intake but no one seems to make those yet. 2 years into production. Disappointing. Its an amazing car, if it had an Electric motor too, it would be better than a 296.

I just bought a nice MC20 coupe here in Canada, and will be taking delivery in April once the snow clears. Really looking forward to it. Comes with CCM brakes and E-diff, forged wheels and other stuff. Looking forward to trying it out on track.
