I am trying to get some information on this set. We've had it since new - I think it's from the 70's. I'm attaching 2 pictures. The box has stamped on it: 12" PLA Made in Italy For. And there is a sticker that reads: Schema Aria Charge. The electric air compressor has a sticker that reads: Maserati Air Horns. Made in Italy for Vilem B. Haan In . U.S.A. Fit upright. And Brevettato etched in side. The installation instruction sheet is dated 1978.

Can anyone give me any information on this and what the value might be? It's new and in the box.

I have here a Vilem Haan catalog from 1976. Apparently what you have is item #CH-PLA-12, the "Charge" version of the Maserati Musical Horn. It originally listed for $64.95. It was also available as the "Colonel Bogey", "La Cucaracha", "Never on Sunday", "Lili Marlene", "O Sole Mio", "Call to the Post", and "Godfather".

"These horns really 'burst into song' at the touch of a switch. Each heavy duty compressor is pre-programmed to play its specific there, or at the flick of the override switch, all five trumpets emit a harmonious and very penetrating tone in unison."

Current value??? Don't know. The musical horns apparently had plastic trumpets only, the chrome horns look snappier. I think you can get lookalikes today, but not the original Maserati sets. Someone had a thread looking for these a while back. Edit: FChatter "srslusso" was looking for a set that plays "Colonel Bogie" back in June 2010.

Are you missing the fifth trumpet? It has to be a specific length/size, or it won't play the correct note.

"Charge", of course, would be the theme played at ball parks when stirring up the crowd.

    Thank you for the info.

I know that the interior of the box looks like there are supposed to be 5 trumpets. But, according to the Musical Horn Kit section on the installation instructions, it says that there can be four to six trumpets (depending on the tune). So, I guess 'Charge' has four. I believe everything is here, original and new - with the exception of a couple of nuts and washers, 4 female snap-on connectors, and possibly one bracket for horn mounting - which should be easily replaceable.

Didn't think about it - but, 'Charge' does only have 4 tones. Thanks again for your input.

Here's a picture of the diagram from the installation instructions:

Indeed, you are correct. "Colonel Bogey" requires the fifth trumpet. My Haan catalog from 1968 shows the Bogey set with five chromed trumpets.

Of course these horns don't have to be mounted on a Maserati. They'd be perfectly fine for use on a pickup at "tailgate" parties!

Can anyone tell me why I was moved into the Maserati car forum? The Maserati Vilem Haan Air Horns I'm posting about are for any vehicle. They are just called Maserati. I need to be in a more general forum.

    Thank you.

Why does this need to be in a more general forum? Do you have quite a few of them for sale that could potentially fit many vehicles?

I agree with Debbelle. Her thread shouldn't have been moved.

By the way, Debbelle, welcome to Ferrari Chat.

My understanding is that these horns were licensed by Maserati but were not actually used on Maserati cars. Of course they can be retrofitted.

The factory did offer music horns as an option, as I have a Ghibli fitted with this option, but these horns were made by Fiamm.
