The Maserati Quattroporte engine is assembled by Ferrari. Does anyone know, with the exception of the Maserati logo on the heads, is the engine 100% identical to the Ferrari engine?

My understanding is they share the block only (this goes for the GT and Spyder engine also). All internal components are different.

I've heard that the block and heads are the same with the exception that the compression is slightly less for the Maser. Also, the intake plumbing differs substantially. Net result is that the Maser is down about 25hp v. the Ferrari motor - and this is by design, of course, so that, in theory, the current Maser doesn't erode market share of the entry level Ferrari.

    4.2 liter (or 4.0 i can't remember)
    single injection
    different intake manifold
    twin clutch

Isn't the Maser rated at 400hp? The F430 is 483, a bit more than 25 hp more.

From your specs it sounds like you've still got the 360 on your mind. The 430 is 4.3 liters, twin clutch, and has many, many differences internally from the Maser. Not that the 360 engine has any similarities to the Maser either.

yea, i'm talking about the 360, because i know the car and i have worked on both so i have a little "hands on" experience, i haven't worked on a 430 so i can't compare it, if i do it would be just a guess

I don't believe the 360 motor, which is the final evolution of the 308 V8, has any parts or history in common with any Maser engine. The 430 engine, on the other hand, was developed using the Maser block as a starting point, since Ferrari had developed the block for Maserati already.
