Another possibility is which systems are attempted to be used after the engine shut down. One would think that turning the steering wheel is going to bleed off more pressure than simply pressing the brake pedal.

If I may bring my 2 cents.
My 4900 Indy only has the LHM brakes.
So the spheres system only includes the main accumulator and two smaller brake spheres (one for the front brakes, one for the rear).

The two brake spheres were recently reconditioned, but not the main accumulator that looks to be original, and...tired, with probably not much gas left inside.

When I drive, the system "clicks" after every two/three brake sollicitations, which is not much.
In such conditions, there is practically no reserve and damping because of the tired accumulator, the brakes still work, but the compressor is probably overloaded.
Still observing how it behaves and will probably replace the main accumulator.

Wow, that's an impressive amount of information, you're the best! But the guy I'm talking about is not KL, whose sons are still in the business. It was another guy, who traded from the basement in his villa. Nothing was visible from the outside. It was definitely not KL, as I know KL personally.

Nah just yet more proof of a misspent youth:D.

Not KL ahah, well the Zurich area has more money and cars tucked away than any part of Europe, amazing.

There are lots of very, very discrete guys in that area who do that, privacy is a very Swiss thing. The interesting classic cars in Switzerland are mostly in the German speaking part.

When I worked for Bonhams for six months in 2017 as Geneva rep for the Motorcar department, the reasons I stopped after half a year were at least twofold; I decided I was not enough of a commercial person to do that full time and also because freedom has no price:)
An auction company needs cars for auction at realistic prices. I spent 2 days with the beautiful and hyper pro Andrea Bodmer of Bonhams Zurich (no just a colleague who got married last year:)) touring the area in June that year (to be paid for that including a great lunch in the mountains was not bad), I inspected 22 cars offered for potential auction at KL's, at various private collections, and all 22 had reserve prices demanded by the owners that were in orbit compared to the market reality. When there is so much wealth at hand they just won't sell unless you make a crazy offer. Not workable, that was the third reason I stopped. That is why there are never foreign owned auctions in eastern Switzerland and Bonhams eventually stopped the Gstaad auction. Now they have the Bonmont golf auction but near Geneva in the French speaking part of Switzerland.

To get back on topic: some of you may recall the green crashed Khamsin I posted a photo of some months ago. I am now very happy to be able to state that I sold it with the man who bought it after the accident in February 2020 (there were no injuries to the driver ex owner, except pride) to a Polish enthusiast who will have it resuscitated with top notch expertise in time for KHAMSIN CINQUANTA, June 16-19 2022 in 14 months where I will give it a special award (unless someone restores one that fell from a cargo plane!). The judges will decide the other Awards but that one I get to decide:)

Oh and positive comments only please about this rescue, you have to be romantic to do something like that far beyond financial considerations and I am very happy to have helped put this car on a path to its second life.

Here post crash and three photos from a pro shoot on a happier earlier occasion when it was featured in a Sport Auto Classiques article in France.

Nice video of 392 in rame metallizzato (copper), thanks for posting, that is of course the car that was on the cover of my book which we put in front of the Neptune statue in Brussels (don't tell the obtuse bureaucrat there, it's just a photoshop Sir, really;-)). I inspected and test drove it in December 2016 for a German client, the engine was fine, everything good but the rear suspension bushing were worn. Other than that a great car. It used to be owned by Fritz Harms the then President of the Dutch (Holland). On the day of the book shoot we went from Eindhoven in Holland to Brussels at a high rate of knots and saw 220+kph numerous times on the motorway.

    Hello Marc
I have a picture of this car showing the drivers side, with one external rear view mirror, which I think looks much better than the large black 'plastic' ones.

Hello Roger, yes these mirrors are discrete, they also don't get pushed down by wind pressure, mine used to bow down in shame at high speeds;-)

Didn't check the chassis number- it is RHD and auto transmission. It has changed hands in the last few months, and was for sale at the time.

Hello Remi, could you please ask the garage, they will know, if not if they could ask the owner, tell them it is for the Khamsin Registry and forum and I will be happy to share what prior info I have on this car, if any.
Many thanks and enjoy your Mexico.

    Hello AMLC

    not the same car!
ITF 073 belongs to #317, last pictures from Bilgola New South Wales, 317 has no ventilation slats in front, old type seats
whereas the unidentified one has ventilation slats, missing fuel filler flap etc. We were guessing it could be 405...

    Regards Roger

Time to rebuild the K's AC system and convert to R134a.
Ordered new TCCI ER-210R compressor and new clutch/pulley assembly etc.

As I am on the road, can somebody---Ivan?:)--- please tell me a compatible receiver/dryer w/pressure switch I can order off the shelf?

    Thanks.

Just get a receiver/dryer with flair fittings and about the same physical size as the original.
    https://www.ebay.com/itm/A-C-Receiver-Drier-VIN-C-2BBL-UAC-RD-2501C/274661742808?_trkparms=aid%3D1110006%26algo%3DHOMESPLICE.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20200818143132%26meid%3Dc7c03edd56ed47ae931190a74b1024bf%26pid%3D101198%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D12%26mehot%3Dpf%26sd%3D143879110830%26itm%3D274661742808%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D0%26pg%3D2047675%26algv%3DSimplAMLCvipPairwiseWebWithBBEV2bDemotion%26brand%3DUniversal+Air+Conditioner&_trksid=p2047675.c101198.m1985

I then use a Binary switch which disconnects the compressor if the pressure gets too low or too high
    https://www.ebay.com/itm/A-C-High-Side-Pressure-Switch-HVAC-Binary-Switch-UAC-SW-9066C/143946954603?_trkparms=aid%3D1110006%26algo%3DHOMESPLICE.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20200818143132%26meid%3Db271f6f872fa42d0a4abf102bb1b4a84%26pid%3D101198%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D12%26mehot%3Dpf%26sd%3D143704556542%26itm%3D143946954603%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D0%26pg%3D2047675%26algv%3DSimplAMLCvipPairwiseWebWithBBEV2bDemotion%26brand%3DUniversal+Air+Conditioner&_trksid=p2047675.c101198.m1985

Was your compressor bad? Before replacing the compressor, I first drain the old oil and refill the compressor with 11oz of ester oil with dye detector, which I get at my local parts place. Ester oil is compatible with both R12 and R134a. All the lines, condenser and evaporator need to be cleaned using an AC cleaner (this is really important). Replace the expansion valve, which is also available on ebay.

I plan to recharge my K in a few weeks, when it gets hot. I pulled vacuum and it held it overnight. Hopefully the compressor works ok.

    Brilliant. Thanks.

BTW, compressor still kicks in---last documented re-charge 2012.
Horrendous metallic sounds probably from bad pulley/bearing!

Just trying to settle this mess at one go;)

Yes. When there is no/little gas, the sphere will have very little "extra" pressure, and the compressor will have to fill it more often.

Thanks Mike, a little better every day..
The red box is an American MSD electronic ignition box - evidently the original Bosch CDI box failed, and the MSD is a much less costly replacement. MIE had the Bosch and plug wires I need, so I'll convert it back to Bosch in the fall.
    Cheers,

I always felt slightly uncomfortable with Maserati’s placement of the coil and battery right next to their placement of the fuel filter bowl. Placing an MSD box there as well would make me even more nervous. The Bosche box is placed in the front by spare tire if I remember correctly.

    Please don't.
It is not, always, a question of $$$.

Unless prepping for a concourse, just move the superior MSD box to the Bosch unit's original location in the spare wheel enclosure and enjoy.

PS---If you really want gold-dust talk to Permatune. Maybe they can make one for the K. Their Bora unit has been magnificent on mine for a lot longer than a decade. I forget exactly how long:)
