    Hi Carmine,
I was not speaking in technical terms more in terms of the decision making. The Orsis, as Adolfo junior confirmed to me, kept Giulio Alfieri on a tight leash because not all his ideas were good: he did screw up sometimes. But during the Citroen rule 1968-75 Malleret I don't think realized that early on and as a result Alfieri was unleashed. Then eventually he did realize he had to keep an eye on his ideas.
I think it is over the top that the driver's seat and headlights are raised hydraulically, they could have been electrical. I know one owner, Dilip Sen in Australia, has converted his to electrically operated headlights. I am all for originality but I do feel Alfieri was showboating, showing off when doing this: the brakes, clutch and steering were enough.

Regarding the more technical hydraulic questions some of you have asked, yes this has been discussed before (see those links) and people like Ivan know a lot more than I do on maintaining the LHM circuit.

Yes there are Bosch parts as used for the Mercedes 600.
So a few years ago, summer 2009 I think, when visiting friends near Stuttgart I went to Mercedes Classic nearby and sat down with one of the tech people, asking how Khamsin owners could buy those Bosch bits. The man was not really willing to help but I made him understand I was sehr stubborn and asked if he could please call Bosch now. In the US I think he would have called security LOL but he did call Bosch...however they were quite reticent. If someone has trouble getting parts they can get them rebuilt anyway, otherwise order via a restoration shop which does Mercedes and that will take a small fee for its troubles.

    Hi Joe,

The weekend will be either 16-19 June 2022 or 23-26 June 2022.

To be clear so no one starts thinking I am talking about this year or next this is in TWO YEARS and two months.

I am narrowing things down to two or three resorts all within 15 to 40 minutes from an International airport with direct JFK and Dulles flights.

AM120US1200. Used to be owned by Jim Collingridge from...Kamloops, British Columbia (Canada) he drove a loooong way down to Monterey 2000 so many of us saw it there. He had an interesting arrangement for his back bumper as he had not sourced a Euro one then but as you can see in the dealer photos the car has now been converted properly. Seems he is or was a character.

Here his notes on that trip from a later ad when he sold the car:
*Seen at Concorso Italiano 2000, Monterey,CA
*Seen at Monterey Historic Race Track
*Drove Parade Lap on Historic Laguna Seca Race Track

Round trip from Kamloops, BC to California over 3200 miles. Used less than 2 lit. of oil plus one fuel regulator filter. Did not have to add any additional LHM fluid, no heating concerns and the A/C runs cold. All mechanicals work like new, no rust what-so-ever, new "Z" rated tires, quality original leather interior, new Weber carbs, new LHM system, and a fresh $10,000+ prep and paint job. Nothing hidden/no surprises!
Looks and runs like a quality Khamsin should...

Has anyone replaced the light bulbs in gauges with a brighter more modern type bulbs? Upside is obviously being actually able to read the gauges at night, not exactly a strong point in Khamsins or any of the Maserati GT cars. Downside heat?

Good point, a little flaw that can get annoying on a long night drive. This is for the tech specialists but yes you want a replacement bulb that is stronger yet does not run too hot which could cause problems.

BTW my original 1972 Bora setup also had no dimming.
It had two settings; bad and worse!

A friend of mine saw this online and I had never ever seen it. Quite an historical document It is a late 1975 or 76 US market advert announcing that Maserati was now under the control of de Tomaso. This ad, placed in specialized trade magazines oriented towards the dealer and distributor audience, is a call for dealer candidates who might wish to represent the Trident. It is written in a very awkward, clumsy way but it must have done the job and generated candidates, who would then go through a vetting process.

Well this one has gone from the US to England.... I just copied and pasted all raw data I had see below, it starts from most recent and goes back in time. I have not heard anything about it recently, please let me know if it is still in the Uk, back in the US or in mainland Europe? Thanks.

First two photos taken in California, the one with the yellow number plate in the UK.

« This left-hand drive, manual transmission Khamsin was first registered in the USA in January 1979 and was imported into the UK in June 2012. Repainted in April 2013, the car is described as totally rust free by the vendor, who advises us that the chassis and engine numbers match, while the odometer reading of circa 35,000 miles is said to be genuine. Finished in black with matching leather interior, this exceptional Khamsin comes with its original handbook, workshop manual and tool kit. Accompanying documentation consists of sundry invoices, current MoT certificate and V5C registration document. Currently taxed, 'EKR 937T' covered approximately 500 miles without fault on a recent Maserati Club rally and is described by the vendor as in generally excellent condition.

Road and Track magazine said in 1975 "The Khamsin is an ego trip on wheels".

The Bertone coachwork was designed by Marcello Gandini and the car was built in the very best traditions of Italian craftsmanship. This opulently elegant condition car features an interior in excellent with soft Italian glove leather and Wilton wool carpets including a foot rest for the passenger. The dash and door panels are leather covered as are many of the surfaces of the trunk space. Light gray Wilton carpets with Hand cut logo mats front and Rear trunk area. This was one of the last hand-built cars, and no expense was spared in the construction. It has the optional ( Back then) Berlin Blaupaunk Stereo on a flexible cable and a tape recorder and cassette built in, and works fine. Even the steering wheel has the original White thread showing nicely. Dash top of felt in good shape. Looking out the lower rear glass is always a trip--The Air conditioning has been rebuilt and recharge and work to very cold now-No overheat. Complete inspection by mechanic.

The body is virtually perfect, without a ding in the body. Never any rust that I can tell as it always been a California car and a USA spec car-- 2 chips in paint where the headlights covers shut. All lights work great and it has xlint Michelin 215 XWX’s on it. All glass xlint and window work fine-Original tool kit complete with jack xlint spare and a NEW ORIGINAL owners manual--.

The car is extremely fast, top speed is good for 174 MPH, a true "supercar" in its day. Zero to 60 time is stated as 6.6 seconds with the 5 speed transmission. Power is supplied by a 4.9 liter V8 with four overhead cams and four two barrel Weber carbs. The engine sits in front and is dry sumped. It applies power through a ZF 5 speed with a limited slip differential. A new clutch and all hydraulics, and rear pan seal either replaced fixed or in excellent condition. No smoke or leaks. The steering and brakes are hydraulically controlled by use of a Citroen patent. The hydraulic clutch is feather light.

The speed-variable assist steering is ultra quick and sensitive making maneuverability superb, driving Motor Sport magazine said "handling is marvelously balanced, and road holding excellent.

At two turns lock-to-lock steering is direct, sensitive, and responsive.

The four wheel disc brakes are very powerful and can handle bringing the car to a stop perfectly and effectively are described as "little short of sensational, free of any wander or darting around."

Motor Sport also said "the Khamsin has to be one of the best and most sensible exotic cars to come out of Italy for a long time." This car now is a very dependable driver or show-One of the nicest one’s left-Get it before the price goes crazy-like everything else--

Saw this video -a mute one- posted elsewhere in Fchat about a 1974 Ferrari factory, various workshops and Scaglietti visit -all off topic here- by members of the Ferrari Club Sweden but what he did not say is that there is a also a Maserati factory visit (starting at 22 minutes 28 seconds if you want to skip the Ferrari etc part.

You can see first the former service department with Boras, Meraks, older models such as Ghiblis, Indys, Mexicos, Mistral, then at 23:50 they walk into the factory itself via the courtyard entrance.

Mr Manicardi from the sales department can be seen at 25:03 hosting the group (he is the shorter man at right smoking). You can see at 24:18 in a courtyard a silver Khamsin smooth nosed parked and a second one at 24:32 almost entirely hidden behind an Indy, at 24:01 to 24:04 indoors you can see two K's being built, a white one perhaps 014, now in Germany (but 020, Japan was also white so no certainty) and a dark one then at 25:08 a test driver in a hurry in a marrone Khamsin, he is not Bertocchi, Grandi, Martinelli or Camarda, don't recognize him. Very nice to see in any case. Thanks for keeping it on topic.

    Marc et.al.

    One final step;) please:
My local classic car import regulations calculate the due tax based on the ORIGINAL FACTORY LOCAL SALES Price in the manufacturers national currency!!!

In other words, what was the price of a new 1978 Khamsin delivered to a customer by Maserati in Italy in Italian lira?

    TIA.

18 million lire as you can read here at the bottom of the page in the Quattroruote magazine test drive by world champion Emerson Fittipaldi. Those are just the first two pages of the article published in 1974 when K's were new.
Quattroruote was and is the leading monthly magazine in Italy and "Emmo" was hired to do some high profile test drives for them.

I don't have right in my computer the exact price and I don't have time now to dig in my piles of period magazine articles, Italian ones included.

The bureaucrats you are dealing with obviously have nothing better to do than to complicate people's lives, what a surprise. That info will have to suffice for them. If anyone has the list price, I know I have all that somewhere in my paper files but no time today. Don't ask me about taxes, VAT etc etc etc. Hope this helps.

That's a crazy way to calculate import duties! And would they inflate the value with the cumulated inflation since then?
For a used item, they should calculate the tax based on the current resale value, possibly with an amortisation with years.
But obviously, for a collectible, they apply what suits them...

Actually that Frua SM, which is owned by a client of mine in northern France, had nothing to do with the Khamsin.
At that time Pietro Frua and his tiny design shop were running out of steam inspiration, energy and money.
This study was refused by Citroen and Maserati.
