Hi my QPIII is in Dark Blue but listed colour code N. Can anyone advise as to the colour for this and how I would get it exactly right. Car will be redone shortly.

Thanks to the experts.

Here was the response from the paint shop. I am sure there is a simple answer! I will let you know the result and will look for the correct decal..

Hi Mr Abraham, I'm not sure I'm going to be a whole lot of help on this one!
The only blue colours I have listed for the SIII are............... Blue Mendoza - code 12189; Blue Sera Met - code 16439; Blue Medio - code 12727003; Blue Tourbillon Met - code 105B709 & finally Blue Ischia Met - code 106A51. I have totally failed to find a Code 'N' in any of my records or paint code books. However, if you do wish to go with the original & we are unable to ascertain precisely what colour that is, then I can arrange with my paint suppliers to use a high tech scanning system to match any origanal paint to a new batch.
As an aside (though I'm sure you already know) there should be a specific metalised sticker on the underside of the bonnet detailing colour, name of colour & paint manufacturer.

William, there should be a label under the engine bonnet, it usually has the "PPG" or whatever brand of color along with the color code.

Here are a few more blue colors that I've got (the metallic ones are for recent cars):

158.667 Blu mica
203.810 Blu luci dl mezzanotte met
231.865 Blu notte
237.869 Blu nettuno met
203.875 Blu mediterraneo met

I looked at the sticker which I had not noticed before. It was very hard to read and I may need to take some overspray or oil spray off it.

I clearly is stamped DBleu and seems to end in 6332012 but I am not sure that is correct. Part of the sticker is torn but all the numbering is there. It seems to be stamped by a punch so I am wondering if when it was repainted they restamped the paint code over the original? DBleu seems to be a French notation not Italian - would they have used that. The mystery deepens.

Who knows what I would need to do to get the factory records for the car?

Thanks again

Finally got a good picture of the label which reads

DBLEU.SERA.6338012

PS the car looked quite purposeful on the street so couldn't resist another picture!

PSS I think the 4Porte was added when last painted as that is a biturbo script - I think this one should be Quattroporte

My documentation reads the following on your color name:

BLU SERA 236809

Which doesn't match your color code, but it does match the color of the car in your picture.

It is interesting because there are no Maserati colors with "BLEU" in their name. Its either "BLU" or "BLUE".

Maybe a made-to-order custom color? or maybe the car has a non-original paint? You can ask your local Maserati dealer to send you the original order of the car, which lists the original colors (interior/exterior).

PS:
Your color code is actually documented as a Ferrari color, not a Maserati one.

Interesting as the sticker looks original. According to the history of the car - published on the other thread - the car was bought by Mr Porter of the Porter group in South Africa and was with him. Perhaps he ordered it in a special colour? It would be good to track down as if it is "unique" in this colour it would be great to get it back to the right colour. In a few spots I can see the original paint and it does seem even darker but that could just be my impression. I thought the French paint abbreviation may have been due to the time. The windows are French stamped also.

Thanks for your help and we will keep digging.

Dear friends just a little help from Italy.

In the first picture showing the black alu label, in the lower left corner there is written:
"N.colore carrozzeria" and the relative english translation "Body color N."
N. stays for Numero (italian) or Number (english), and is not a colour code.
The relative number (colour code) is stamped a little more lower, so I can read A897026000.

The other label showing the Salchi badge says Bleu.
Bleu is a little bit french than the italian Blu, but is the same.
It is quite usual to find both in italian language.
I had the two Salchi colour decks of Ferrari and Maserati so I could notice that there was a Blu/Bleu Sera (non metallic) and a Blu/Bleu Sera metallizzato (metallic).
In case of matching names, Ferrari and Maserati, were identical.
So the Italver code was 20.100M while the Glidden Salchi code was 106.A.18, the Max Meyer was 16.439 and the PPG code is 14833.

Hope that this could help

Ciao
Andrea

Hi Here is the reply from the painter. Also a couple of pictures of Ferrari Blue Sera which I am told is the same colour. Perhaps the experts can confirm that we have it right!!

It will be going in for paint this time next year so we shall reactivate the thread after that. All comments on paint welcomed...

"I have cross-referenced the colour & it is identical (same paint manufacturer code although not the same ID code) as Ferrari Blue Sera (2 pics attached of a 308QV we are just completing in this colour).
Many thanks for the pics - it helps a great deal. "

Wonderful car and I love the colour. It looks great and your car looks the business! It really is one of my favourite Ferraris. How does it drive

Here is a reply from Maserati regarding the car colour:

"The historical archive shows the original paint to be ”Blu Sera” Italver code 633 80 12.

But the archive also shows that there was also another version of “Blu Sera” Salchi (106A18). This version is not listed against this car but was used during early production of Maserati"

is pleasure. It feels e bid stiff when cold, but after 15 min. The 412 is easy to drive, handles direct and the shifting is precise but heavy. Clutch is heavy to. The sound of this car is the best I ever had in e car. The car is relalaible, the service cost are ok.
