I'm still not a big fan of having "aero" over "styling" which this car clearly does at times. But as a visual statement, it's a pretty good one. And the looks shout "Ferrari", which is a good thing.
I am curious as to how the performance specs are in line with the Pista and 720 when it is to have close to 1000HP. Is it really that heavy? I was just offered an early allocation and considering but I am not entirely sold.
Styling wise it looks too much like an evolution of the 488. We were promised a spaceship. This isn’t that. And rear end is just horrible - no wonder most pics stick to the front or side aspects. Weight wise, it’s a bloater. No getting away from that. That’s going to affect handling and component wear. Sure, it’ll be mega over one lap, but it’s endurance credentials are going to be in doubt. Price wise it seems to be slightly cheaper than originally thought. I have no doubt that’s ferrari realising the market for this thing isn’t as strong as it had hoped. Long term ownership seems risky - that battery pack isn’t going to be cheap to replace and who wants to be sat on that cash timebomb? Overall I think it’s ok, 5 out of 10 for me. Not more. But as is often the case with Ferrari the first generation of a new line is usually like that. Just ok. Then the second generation comes along and knocks it out of the park.
Yes, it is that heavy. It has that 1000 ps number but it's also lugging around 1800+ kg. An 800 ps Pista would have roughly the same power-to-weight ratio. I think it needs to get to at least 1650 kg or less before it's really interesting.
I feel for the most one cannot “truly” have a full opinion about a car until they see it in person. So until I see an SF90 in 3D I won’t vote.
Power to weight is important but torque curve is becoming more so. The days of an engine being fun because it revs to 9000 are over. You’ll rarely see 9000 because of the speeds required to be there. Hybrids bring instant torque which is very fun and will make the SF90 feel much quicker than the F8 tributo/Pista/720S etc
I am for hybrids. What I am saying though is that one can still deploy the ICE's potential at lower speeds, as long as they engage the right gear.
Great point. I always felt that way with the 812. Until I saw it in person, It was just OK. Now I feel the 812 is Amazing!
I had a kinda similar experience with the 812. At first I thought it was an over styled b@$t@rd then I saw one in person and thought “it is”. Lol Sorry couldn’t resist. It does certainly look better in person.
