My apologies if this has been posted before.. I didn't see it with a search..

I read the California uses the same 7 speek PDK transmission as the 458 with a different shifting algorithym. I assume that given the shaft from the drivetrain is the same going into both transmissions, you could swap them out. If the PDK units are the same between the California and the 458, why not just swap out the transmission from the Manual car California to the 458? Thus building a manual gated 6 speed 458. Is the transmission truly different mechanically? Would this be feasible?

To head off concerns from others.. 1) Yes I do prefer manual gated shifter cars 2) Yes I would consider this if I won the lottery 3) No I don't anticipate winning Powerball this weekend 4) If I did do this in the future the car would be the only gated on the planet or one of maybe 2/3 cars at worst, thus it's novelty.

    Many thanks in advance!

Given how few manual Californias were sold maybe if you ask Santa Luca nicely he'll leave one of his many leftover transmissions under your tree

I'm pretty sure I saw they'd already discontinued it as a result

There are very few around....and the few that are out there for sale are not being sold even at discounted prices.

If you want to see some pictures make a quick search in the California threads

Manual Cali's were only available in Europe. They never made it to the US and they don't have plans to bring it here. Got that info straight from my PR contact at Ferrari NA.

Vrsurgeon, I get where your coming from. I wish they still offered the manual as an option also. There are many documents stating California's are available with a manual, and your right. In theory you can bolt the manual to the 458 engine, but that's the easy part. Routing your clutch and shift linkage would be hell, and even worse is that in the footwell there is physically just no room for a clutch pedal. So I'm sure for the right amount of money anything is possible, but would it be worth it? Just my thoughts.
