So... they should have official searches. And what about Mauritius and Madagascar... they are probably in the same current. Even eastern Africa... There's a report that someone found a seat cushion and some suitcases... burned the suitcases as trash last spring, not connecting the dots.
Malaysian official: Debris found on island not part of Flight 370 Official: Debris found on island not part of Flight 370 These guys are really not doing themselves any favors with these nonsensical statements! I read all over media it (the new debris) was part of a door," Malaysian Director General of Civil Aviation Azharuddin Abdul Rahman told AFP and other media outlets. "But I checked with the Civil Aviation Authority, and people on the ground in Reunion, and it was just a domestic ladder.
They're not talking about the flaperon that was found. Someone found a ladder and it was investigated as a piece of the wreckage. It was dismissed and that's the subject of the article. Good call I think.
Just to put it in context. When I was a teen, I went to west africa (Gabon and Cameroon) to visit family working there. I had several opportunities to walk miles and miles of shoreline that rarely saw human feet. What struck me was the sheer volume of stuff washed up on shore on these beaches. In the US, if anything cool washes up on shore, including a flaperon, we nick it as soon as we see it, and turn it into a coffee table or wall art. So our beaches have very little of interest on them, other than what naturally is there. These natural beaches I visited, by contrast, had mountains of rope, old life boats, life preservers, netting, lumber, and even beached ships every few miles just left to nature. It was quite incredible and a stranded person would have had no trouble creating an amazing home out of much of that stuff and likely burning the rest as fuel. My take on this is, that these people see stuff wash up on their shores all the time. Many may have no clue what the stuff is and may not even have any idea that a jet was lost at sea thousands of miles away and over a year ago. What's a hunk of metal to them if they can't eat it or burn it ir make a shelter from it? It's nothing that matters to them.
I heard that the people who found it never even heard of the plane crash. And, it's totally believable. It's not like people in Reunion Island care what's on CNN.
Very good post! You give us some insight into life "out there" and allow us to better understand the mentality of those living in relative isolation. Also you have highlighted the plight of our oceans that have become a garbage dump.Thanks.
The NEW one I looked at last Friday was made in Spain. They are never painted green during assembly, installation or delivery. As I stated previously, they are light Grey/White. They aren't made of metal, they are skinned with composite.
However, with the flaperon that has been brought to France on Saturday, to be expertised this Wednesday, was also a suitcase, found on a beach nearby, that could also have been on MH370, and will be expertised by different specialists. Rgds
Expertise of the flaperon scheduled for this afternoon, french time. However, no precise delay has been given for publication of the results. Australian officials said that "they hope for a definitive conclusion" before the end of the week. Rgds
If they found one of the windows floating in that means the secret is out about the ultra light weight glass that Boeing invented. Goes along with super light unobtainium, I guess.
^ finally. Weirdly, some whispers here, are saying the 'perfect' timing they found the debris, just when the PM is accused of a massive money scandal...
NO, it is NOT CONFIRMED officially YET: Yesterday at the end of the afternoon, the prime Minister of Malaysia took the liberty to say that the flaperon is from MH370. But the french justice said only that the flaperon is from a Boeing 777 indeed and there are "very strong presomptions" for the time being that it is from MH370, but the expertise is not over yet; so, for the experts, no official confirmation yet. Rgds
I understand the French statements may be hazy from a legal point-of-view. Perhaps Thursday may bring further confirmation (or not...?). As a BEA contact of mine said (off the record) "the Malaysians have the prerogative to announce it, even though they have annoyed everyone else by announcing it ahead of a joint statement". Darn politics complicate everything!
You have absolutely no idea what's happening here with the politics, do you? believe me my friend, it's comical. For example, why the PM is jumping the gun to announce that the part of the wing is from MH370, when in reality, neither did the experts from Boeing, or France confirmed anything. It's just distraction, about what's going on in his political career
It's not really politics here, I think: there is an official legal enquiry on this airplane (sorry: aeroplane...) part, with experts from Australia, China, Malaysia and from Boeing participating. This expertise is done in France because: - a legal enquiry has been opened here just after the vanishing of the plane, as four french nationals were among the disappeared/victims, so the french justice had to open one; - the part that may be related to said legal enquiry or case was found on french soil. For the time being, no schedule (date or hour) for publication of the conclusions has been given. However, most people believe that something would probably be announced officially "before Sunday". On the other hand, as Pete was saying in a previous post, the Malaysian officials have been harshly criticised for a year and a half for their bad communication, so they are probably anxious to seize the occasion to state something firm and clear. Rgds
More or less what I was saying at the same time, athough it must be said that the representative of the french justice has publicly said that: "it seems highly probable that the flaperon found on Réunion Island belongs indeed to the Boeing 777 of flight MH370".
Papers today also said malaysia has been less than forthcoming about the background incestigations into the flight crew.
