This is supposed to be one of the ones used in the TV show? If it is, it has been changed slightly. The show ones never had red seat piping or a side badge.

Based on wheels, mirrors and front vents. This is a 2V.

Those lying SOB's. Maybe that's why the guy was smiling in the background (check full pic). They also had the "Back to the Future" De Lorean, but who knows (no pics of it other than background of un-cropped pic). They could have faked the "Andy Griffith Show" cop car, too. Can't believe someone would fake that. I'll have to contact the promoter but maybe he already knew. Nice example "anywho".

I dont think any Ferrari 308, 328 had fender shields on them in the 80's 90's. Everyone started sticking them on when they were an option for the new Ferraris. As far as the seats go. Im sure that car was abused specialy in the hot Hawaii heat. If it was one of the actual cars. So it wouldnt surprise me if the seats had been redone.

Knowing the serial numbers or that Tom Selleck actually sat in a car doesn't really flip my switch a bunch. Probably no way to tell. Looked like a well kept car. Should have taken some interior pics just to show what it looked like but wasn't the main push of why I was there. Will check the next rally and see if it's there again. Someone said that they had to go with the S because of Sellecks height. Now that made sense.

Was the 308 billed as one of the ones used in the series? If it actually was, I'm surprised they would change the look of it. The shirt and camera are a bit over-the-top too.

There was a bio on the car next to it but I didn't have time to read it. The next rally is in two weeks and I'll see if it's there to get more info. Took the picture with my Crackberry as an afterthought. If it looks interesting enough, I'll get some more pics.

I don't think this would be an original Magnum Ferrari, but it kinda looks like one.

There were three different 308 GTS's used during the show's run. For the first season, it was a 1978 308 GTS (one mirror, no rear spoiler, no front hood vent, red vents behind the headlights). For the second, third and most of the fourth season, it was a 1980 308 GTSi (two rectangular mirrors, spoiler above the rear window, black front hood vent, black vents behind the headlights). For the rest of the series' run, it was a 1984 308 GTSi Quattrovalvole (looked just like the '80 except it had a red windshield frame instead of the black one).

The show used more than one car when filming. One was a dedicated "action car" which was used for certain car chases and driving sequences. Another car was used for still shots and close-up scenes. There were also "kit car" versions of the 308 that were used for some of the more aggressive driving scenes done on the show. The kit cars were made of fiberglass and were built on a Pontiac Fiero chassis.

All of the original Magnum P.I. Ferraris were auctioned off when the series ended in 1988. Larry Manetti bought one of the early GTS'. He reportedly still owns it. One of the cars, a '78 308 GTS, is on display at the Cars of the Stars Motor Museum in Keswich, Cumbria, England. Also, an '84 308 QV is on display at Universal Studios Hollywood, as part of the Famous Fast Cars attraction.

I spoke to a fellow who lived on the Island during part of the time they filmed. He said he had the other red 308 on the Island at the time and it was borrowed a couple times when the dedicated car was in the shop. Interesting story and I neither chose to believe or disbelieve but based on the fellow, his demeanor and current stable I'd lean slightly to believe.

That is one of the cars, I remember the owner. FNA maintained ownership of the cars and sold them when the show was done with them. That one at least was sold by FNA with a full warranty. We did some warranty work on it.

If he is there at the next rally, I will definitely get the S/N's and some much better pics than I did this time, as well as the bio and talk with the owner about the history of the car. You guys have me interested now. If anyone is interested.

Universal Studios theme park had a stunt "308" on display when I was there 12 or so years ago. It wasn't a Fiero, it was a Ferrari. It might have been a race car chassis with a replica 308 body on it. It was very tired looking. It had wierd braking systems for slides, etc. Since the premiere of Magnum PI predates the Fiero by about 4 years they must have other cars made up on non-Fiero chassis.
