Dan I have to give a huge thumbs up to this set that I bought 8 years ago. It is without a doubt the first thing I grab when I am going to do any work on anything. I highly recommend this set. I hope is all with your car. Are you swapping or cleaning some MAFs? 113-Piece Tamper-Proof Bit Set - Griot's Garage
I dont understand the point of this thread? The MAF does not need to be removed from its housing for cleaning or replacement. A new MAF comes with its own housing. The tool however is a wise investiment, I used it to removed the Airbag on my steering wheel to access and replace the wiper switch, on a 2009 Scud.
I think the insert alone was cheaper than the housing set, so. I just changed the insert. Could'ved used the proper tool before I stripped the screw though.
I thought there were some aerosol sprays that are used to clean the MAF? I would surely want it removed and on my bench instead of spraying into the intake.
It is not snap on quality but it is very nice and with the nice case it makes it as easy to store and manage set. The handle that receives the bits is very high quality, is magnetized too. The secret sauce is in the array of bits but even more so are the 1/4" sockets std and metric. They are very thin walled and so I have used them in places that just wouldn't work with anything else! WIN WIN! Pair this set with a real nice 1/4 drive ratchet and you are in business. I feel as though I speak from some smidge of authority since I used to build fighter jets with my hands. Here is the finest 1/4 drive ratchet I have used and is usually pulled out with my griots kit above. (Note: the ones I own are laser etched as Great Neck Tools but these have to be the same) The are sold at Sears too. The beauty of these is that you can use it like a screw driver too since it swivels straight up! Hi Kevn, I have two sets of that tool set in my garage! You cant beat the price = $20! Unfortunately, the Griots tamper proof tool set does not have the 5 point torx that is needed to remove the MAF's...........so I had to search Amazon for the MAF screw bit. I had a CEL 5 weeks ago that points to O2 sensors. Mark, Master Mechanic of Ferrari of Seattle recommends I try cleaning the MAF's before I start replacing O2 sensors and MAF's itself. So I removed my MAF insert, cleaned it with CRC MAF cleaner, reset the CEL and the light has not come back in 3 weeks now! I hope it stays that way. Dan
When the MAF sensor gets dirty it usually triggers a CEL fault code. Instead of spending $600.00 to replace the entire MAF itself we usually try and clean the sensor first. To clean the MAF sensor and not having to remove the MAF housing I use the 5 point torx bit to remove the insert. Then I used a CRC MAF cleaner. Follow the procedures on the spray can itself. I removed my MAF insert, cleaned my MAF sensor / inset, reset my fault codes and my CEL went away. If the MAF goes bad, you can get an entire MAF with housing from Ferrari for about $600.00. But there is usually nothing wrong with the plastic housing. Its the insert that goes bad / thermistor wears out. So to save money we can just replace the insert. You can buy just the insert made by BOSCH for less than $100.00. Amazon.com: CRC 05110 Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner - 11 Wt Oz.: Automotive

Thanks for sharing Rick. I did read that thread. And if my CEL comes back I will use that info to replace my MAF thermistor. Great thread. Thanks. Dan
