    Hey Guys

looking to buy a MAF for a 5.2 - the Bosch cross reference is unavailable … any other sources?
RockAuto shows one listed for $55 but I don’t think that’s the correct replacement part - anyone tried it ?

    thanks!

I think delphi makes one that replaces the sensor in the existing tube housing. You may need a security bit to remove the old one. I can't recall was a long time ago. But I did try one to see if it was viable. It did work but I put the original back in. Maybe it was from Napa. Too many moons ago.

What do you mean by "the Bosch cross reference is unavailable" - is it that you don't have the original Bosch MAF on your car so you don't know its number or is it that you cannot find other brands that are equivalent to your old Bosch MAF ?

The RockAuto's Magneti Marelli 213719655019 is equivalent to Bosch 0 280 217 800 which, according to the Bosch catalogue, is for F355 5.2, 10.95-->, engine F129C/40, Ferrari p/n 162397. So this Marelli MAF appears to be suitable for your 5.2 car.

    Bosch 0 280 217 800 is also used in BMW E32, E34, E38 and E39 with M60/M62 4.0-liter V8 Engines. Bosch 0 280 217 800 equivalent (cross-reference) other brands are:

    MAGNETI MARELLI 213719655019
    VEMO V20-72-5147
    BREMI 30190
    MEAT & DORIA 86429

but I do not know whether these are of good quality. Possibly all are China made?

"The RockAuto's Magneti Marelli 213719655019" above - sorry, I meant to say "The Autodoc's Magneti Marelli 213719655019"

It sounds like these days most folks are sending theirs out to fuel injection corporation to get rebuilt, and from the feedback here it appears they have happy customers. I will likely be in that camp soon....

Just spoke to Fuel Injection and they said they do NOT do the Bosch 0280217800 MAF rebuild? Anyone use them before successfully for the 5.2 MAFs?

You can try to get a new Bosch 0280217800 MAF (I presume this is the number of your old MAF, you did not let us know what you actually have) as a BMW part. The BMW part number is 13 62 1 702 078 [for BMW E32, E34, E38 and E39 with M60/M62 Engines - 540i or 740i, see at: BMW Parts Catalog (bmwfans.info)] and Pelican Parts appear to have it at about $480.

You can also look for the separately replaceable sensor element for this MAF. Google for, for example, "bmw 13 62 1 702 078 mass air flow sensor". The sensor element looks like this:

$500 is CHEAP. You are very lucky you don't have a 2.7 348 - more than $3,000 rebuilt from Maranello (and you have to send them your old one). If you don't have the old MAF, it is $5,600.

Thanks!! Did not consider just the element as replaceable! They are about $200 new from various sources, and are an OEM part (unlike many chinese MAFs in the market) - thanks again!!
