Does anyone use a nylon-insert lug socket for the wheel studs? I had one for my Porsches in order to avoid marring the black annodized aluminum lug nuts.

We have specialized sockets like that from Hill Engineering, in stock at Ricambi America: CS01 : https://www.ricambiamerica.com/cs-01-chrome-saver-socket.html This design is a little different -- it is an aluminum head, with rubber insert, on a steel body.

I bought an entire metric set off Amazon for $35. Only trick is to find one with a 22mm.

I just purchased a 22mm nylon-insert socket for my 360 Spider on Amazon.com. I Believe it was around $15.00. It is similar to other nylon sockets that I had previously purchased. They work great.

I have similar to those you listed but was looking for ones that the inserts surround the lug nut surfaces

Those are the ones I have but the inside only has plastic at the end ..the lug nut sides still touch metal ..I have seen where the inside wall is plastic or even felt and the lug nuts never have metal to metal contact ...thoughts ?

I have this one. It's great! I think it's better than the ones with plastic inserts. A tad pricey though.

I had it too. Lost it though. It's more expensive because it's not mass produced and not made in China. Hill makes quality tool.

I have titanium lugs on mine so its a different tool.

But yes, for regular wheel lug bolts I recommend using a sleeved socket.

Previous owner bought a Craftsman Allen socket in 1/2" drive. I keep it in the trunk. I never looked at what is in the tire change kit...

At Snap On you can buy non marring inserts for your sockets. I used them with my sockets that have the nylon on the outside so I cover both the lug and the rim.

    Could you provide a picture?
I thought that was the idea of these being aluminum (softer than the steel bolt) and with nylon outer, protects both the wheel and bolt.

Never mind, found them online https://store.snapon.com/Non-marRing-Metric-Socket-Inserts-C754106.aspx So is the idea you put the insert in a socket the next size or two up?

Its more than a size. I can't remember how many sizes up your socket has to be. I have never had to have a 22mm insert.

I would call and they should be able to help you out.

from the link I provided, it appears they don't go up that large in size. From the listing, it appears the largest they have is 17mm and requires a 22mm socket to use.
