I own a 85 308 QV. I was interested in finding out the results some of you may have had in using this product by Lucas. I have checked previous threads. But I'm wondering how this product has effected some of you whom had responded to these earlier threads concerning this lubricant. Effectively, what has been the long term result if any? Or simply, have I just wasted a bunch of cash on snake oil. Thanks for everyone's time.

I did performance and emission testing in college and found most fuel additives including the lucas offered little in the way of improving emissions and cleaning. The ethanol in todays fuel does a good job of cleaning(the good thing about e blends). The best "brand" additive we tested was Sea-foam. The Sea-foam helped reduce cylinder washdown of the oil (The bad thing about e blends). The best additive that we found was straight kerosene. We kept our mix ratio 1 oz to 1 gal of gas.

I think you can't know if any of these additives work without a controlled comparison of long-term engine deposits and wear. It's also my opinion that top oil was proven to be a waste of money decades ago but is making a comeback with a new generation who thinks its something new.

The shop that did the major on my engine gave me a bottle of Lucas treatment because the car hadn't been driven regularly for two years and ran a little rough. After several tanks of gas using Lucas with no effect, I ran two tanks treated with Techron and only then noticed an improvement in smoothness and performance.

I've also noticed an explosion of Lucas Oil products on the shelves at Pep Boys.

    Just my 2 cents.

That's an interesting point you bring up about Techron. I've noticed that since I began using a local Esso gas station, my car has started to run a little rough. Especially on cold start up. I'm going to return to Chevron to see if truly Techron works. Obviously I'm not providing any exact science comparisons, but an honest opinion. I have yet to use the Lucas product. I'm going to keep it on my shelf for the meantime. But it's going to be tough not using the Esso gas station. The girls that work there are a lot better looking than at the Chevron. Why are there always tradeoffs? Can't we have it all?

You can buy Terchron concentrate and add it to a tankful every few K and get good results too. I've used it in all our gas vehicles for ten years; since Audi service used it on my old 2.7T.
