tHE CAR IS 3 months old and the car would not start or even turn over. This should not happen with a new car and if it did they should try to help you. The dealer blamed me then the battery tender. I have 14 cars and most have a battery Tender and my experience has been very good, actually perfect. The Lotus dealer would not help me under the warrenty to come and even look at the car. It is apparent they ( Lotus or the lotus dealer) would not and does not support the car.

This is my second Lotus and my last Lotus. I went on the Lotus forum and there were many owners complaining about Evora battery failure. So it may be a cronic problem with the factory supplied battery.

The car is fun to drive but in my view a substandard manufacturer and a flawed product. So much for a 36 month warrenty. I will get it fixed somehow but obviously not from Lotus or their dealer. So the car will sit in the back of my storage area. I pushed it in the very back :(

    bummer :(

that's one big strike against Lotus for me as well, the dealer network is very hit or miss.

have you isolated the problem? i.e. bad battery, alternator, etc?

Well I tested the battery tender on another car and it did not hurt that car from starting. So the battery Tender was not the problem.

It took me an hour to get to the battery, just the terminals. Based on the Lotus forum comments on battery problems with the car I suspect it is battery. The battery tender was very hot when I first saw the problem. That normally means the battery has a direct short. I later checked this with my multimetter and it was a direct short.

The Lotus forum has a list of batteries they recommend for Evora owners. I will buy one of those and put that in and most likely solve the problem.

I had a Lotus Elise sport and loved that car. I never had any trouble with it. I had two freinds who had gauled cams because the lobes use a drip system and Lotus drilled the holes incorrectly. Never looked at my cams the car just went on. I do not race and I drive the cars only ocassionly . They raced their cars so I suspect warrenty does not cover that, not sure tho.

I bought and still own an Aston Martin from the same dealership that I bought this Lotus. They did a few small warrentry repairs on that car so the issue must be the Lotus car company. Still surprise the dealer was not synpathic or helpful. They may have tried, who knows!

This really bothers me that Lotus does not stand by their 36 month warrenty. I know batteries can go after 3 years or so but within a few months?

I will get it running drive it alittle then dump it and get something else. Not sure what, just not a Lotus.

Sorry to rant I just find this unbelieveable.

That sucks. Anything on the radar to replace it with? Let me know what you are offered for it as a trade-in. I might be interested...

Yes they are nice looking and drive very good altho not much power. especially compared to your F40 Ferrari Simon.

Nothing yet in my eye to buy. I want to relax for awhile it is safe and dead at the back of my storage area.

I might look at the Audi again. I drove the 8 with a V10 Lambo engine. The most exciting car I have ever driven. Not as fast as the 458 but an awesome car. The one I drove was the V10 with a 514 hp detuned Lambo engine Audi also makes a 560 hp GT version they said was hard to get which always means $'s.

Thank you for the kind condolences :) I'll survive so many cars to buy and so little time :)

Simon I will let you know when my mind is there on selling. I am just as likely to take a sludge hammer to the car and drop it off at the dealers front door.

    Thanks again

a friend's Exige had the same cam problem, Lotus kept throwing new cams at it (for over a year!) before finally getting an engine replacement...after multiple complaints to Lotus in Atlanta and a demand letter or two from her attorney.

stuff like that is why I'll never take Lotus as seriously as Porsche (or even Ferrari) as a car company.

however in your case if it's just a battery, buy a new one and happy motoring. no reason to sell the car over something silly like that.

Interesting stories. In a different Lotus thread a poster talks about Lotus and thier financial troubles. I guess they were sold to photon or something like that. I had no idea Ltus as a company was going through so much termoil. It appears Lotus because of some law has not been able to recieve some $ funds it needs to keep operating. Makes one feel bad for the employees who may suffer if things unwrap as that poster indicated.

I will put a battery in or whatever is needed drive it a little then as I aid dump it.

I have never had a broblem with the two Lambos I owned but I did have a problem with my 458. The dealer was fantastic in correcting the cars problem. I had a new 911 Porsche (997 varaint) the car just lost everything. The Porsche dealer was also very good in taking care of the cars problem. I do not remember what the Evora turbo cost but I do not think anyone can compare it to those cars from a cost viewpoint. anyway now that I know Lotus is on bad times I will give them some slack while I hope the best for their employees

    Good advice my freind :)

Sorry to hear about the Evora issue, but I'm even more sorry to hear about the lack of help from the dealer. Very unwise on their part.

I have been following Evora issues for a year on another forum, and agree with the above advice to try a battery replacement. Some have indeed gone bad. I also recommend continuing to use your battery tender if you do not drive it frequently, because the Evora's parasitic power loss can drain it below starting level in 2 to 3 weeks.

Note: I have had an Evora S on order since last June, and have been waiting, and waiting, and waiting. :(

I have put a new battery in as recommended in the lotus forum and it has been fine so far.
I great driving car you will enjoy it but so is the Audi R8.

The sad part about the orlando dealer was the mechanic was hostile to me and my problem.
The only phrase I remember and I paraphrase is and it was said in anger " I am working on a $125 per hour job If I come up there and it is your fault you will pay me the $125 times 3"
Then he went on ranting about my use of a battery tender or my lack of understanding of this or that. To be fair to the dealership he is the Lotus mechanic for them and not in mangement.

Sad necause my wifes MB car is getting old and she is thinking or was thinking of a Jaquar. She drove one and liked the car. I think she is now thinking of a lexus.

I just walked in and told Joy and she batted your kind words back to you and Amanda :)

I have not been able to get her to drive a Bently. She says the car is to big. I cannot seven get her in one to test the seat :) The dealer is the same place I bought my two Lambos including the current one. They have always been good to us and fair.

As you know she is a lovely lady but I must admit she is stuborn about what and when she buys a car. She does not want to replace her MB with a new one because she has not been happy with the car. She almost fainted when she paid for her first oil change. Simon this is why you marry a truck driver daughter, She is so frugal :) I think the car has been fairly good but she points out her Honda Accords where perfect and they cost alot less. I never could win a debate with her.

    Great hearing from you

    Best regards

    Lee
