Anyone know where I can find the little plastic "christmas trees" that hold the interior b-pillar trim? On a recent drive, one of these fasteners broke and the trim piece almost took flight. I heard it flapping around and was able to pull over and grab the piece before the other fastener broke. I've checked at a local parts store, but they only have the round ones. The OEM has a similar side profile but is more flat. I could probably make one of these work but I'd rather get the correct fastener.

I would call Michael at Ferrari of Seattle. Probably wont be that cheap but if you only need one they probably have one. You could call Daniel at Ricambi too. Same idea.

No dice at Ricambi. I know quite a few of you have done interior work lately -- did you need to replace these fasteners and where did you get them?

I think I replaced a couple of mine with just generic ones from the local auto parts place. As long as it's about the same size and fits in the hole it should work no matter what shape it is.

I used some Chev Silverado fasteners, it required drilling the receiver hole ever so slightly larger to make them fit without excess force, they were maybe 15-25 cents each at the local autobody/paint supply. They were probably generic GM fasteners, but the sample I discovered would work was out on a 1980's Silverado, IIRC.

PS: The GM ones don't twist in and lock like the Fcar ones do, you just use them as push fasteners by pressing on the heads through the vinyl

I hadn't thought of going to a paint shop. Seems like they'd have a better selection than an auto parts store. I'll bring the old fastener to one and see if we can find something that will work.

    Hi Flyngti,

Take a look at www.tifco.com to see if any of their bodyshop/interior fasteners will do the trick for you. They've got quite an assortment - I've found and ordered several for different cars over the years and have been pleased with their products. Look on their catalog starting at page D25 for Christmas tree fasteners. Hope this helps.

    Ciao,

    Vincent

P.S. I just tried to download their most recent catalog using Firefox as a webbrowser without luck but MS Internet Explorer seems to work fine.

Ok, not stock but after re-doing all my interior and not having to re-cover the pillar when the same part broke ---- I decided to use velcro and it worked perfectly --- does not affect the part, easily removable, wide enough, strong enough and has been on for the past 18 months.

After having mine recovered in black vinyl I bought a pack at Napa that twist in.
Take the trim piece in, Napa has a big book with all their versions and just pick the correctly sized ones.

I'm planning to make my own retainers.
I've designed it with a 3D software and after that I've printed the part -on a 3D printer- just to see if it fits. The part works correctly. See attached image.

Now I've redesigned the part and I will send to print it again in better resolution, in order to make a mould. Is a little bit expensive, but the part is like the original, and for me is a hobby.

When I got the definitive trim retainer I will show the result.

I ordered a set of Magnum's trim retainers--they fit perfect!

How about the little lever on the set mechanism that allows you to fold the seat forward. It's unobtainable?

Robert, any time you find a plastic part that you feel is unobtainable... contact Verell Boaen at Unobtainium Supply.

If he doesn't already make it, he might know where to get it or be able to make some given enough interest

Once I've taken the 3d printing cert and some injection molding, etc - I will definitely assess it for you. I'm a little ways out right now though...using techshop in Pittsburgh. Amazing place.
