Looking for Ferrari flashlight (mini-mag light)---like this image I borrowed from e-bay. Mine got internally corroded from the battery leaking and won't open. Looking for a working one, or even one for parts. Let me know what you have. Thanks! -mark (aka fossilfuel) Image Unavailable, Please Login
Check out this flashlight. I bought one a month ago to keep in the glove box and removed the OEM flashlight. I think you could exchange some parts. The flag lite has the smooth barrel like the Ferrari model. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00004SZ5R/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Hi Mark ,I had the same problem. If it is not damaged on the outside it can be fixed.Get one or both ends open and get the bad batt out. You might have to dig or drill it out but it can be done.Clean it well . All the needed repair parts are cheap and available.Google is your friend.I think it cost about $20.00 bucks for the parts and is an easy fix. Good luck,Mike
Thanks guys. The bottom cap is REALLY on there---we tried leverage, heat, penetrant...it just won't screw off. I may have to try to drill it out from below? I wonder if i can clean the flag off the flag-mini-mag-light with acetone, or something. May be worth a try. Still interested in buying one as plan-b.
+1 I had the same with a vintage Jaguar mag lite. Both ends corroded shut. I cut off the tail end with a dremel tool. Then drilled out the corroded batteries. Bought a new mag lite in the same color and swapped out all the parts I needed. Cost $11 on Amazon and a couple hours in the shop. Original Ferrari ones are still available on eBay, but they’ll run you $250 or so.
Mine had the same issue. No matter what I did, I could not get the battery out. Drilled, heated, froze. Tried it all. The leaking battery acid really reacts with the aluminum and fuses it all together. I bet there were Duracells in there. Replacements are around, but very costly as the Ferrari tax has been heavily levied on these dumb things.
Here’s where you can buy the MagLite. Actually it’s only $22 ! https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F382128569933
That is not nearly the exact same thing as you mentioned. That is an LED light with an elongated head and a diamond pattern etched in the middle.
There are dozens of variations of MagLite. Take a look on Amazon and/or eBay. I’m sure you can find one that matches. I bought one about two years ago that was identical. Anyone want my corroded old one?
A member named Alden was selling some a while back...he's a good resource for some of these things. I bought two car covers from him- good guy!
Yes, you are correct. $300 for authenticity vs $20 for a flashlight made by the same supplier that fits in the owners portfolio and is quite usable. A couple of personal examples: I needed a new alarm siren for my Maranello. The Ferrari part was $280. The IDENTICAL siren made for GM by the OEM supplier was $76. I took the generic GM part. I needed hood struts. The Ferrari parts were $120. The IDENTICAL struts made by the same OEM supplier, without the Ferrari logo, were $45. I took the generic. If authenticity is your bag, pay up and get authenticity.
There was a guy on here laser etching them with the Ferrari logo. Not sure who it was or what thread it was on. Maybe Ferrari got word of it and shut him down. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Here’s one a on eBay now; have a party. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F142621240288
