New report today starts with a headline of Logan Sargent being replaced by Mick Schumacher. But the article doesn't actually say that. Instead it talks about Mick being in line for either Sargent's seat at Williams or the Alfa seat.

Logan is not doing well so far but is this article a plant by driver managers trying to stir up some support for their boy?

Is Sargent in a situation with Albon where the comparison is like being a teammate to Senna or Verstappen?

Is Logan Sargent really so bad that he deserves such a story before halfway in the season?

I'd think any rookie deserves more than 1 year, Mick had his 2.

The first year was misleading because his team mate was Mazepin, another weak driver.

Ralph Schumacher is doing a great job in the media promoting his nephew as the next Christ coming.

Probably the truth is too painful to swallow with some dignity.

Sounds to me like Ralph is up to his BS again. I don't think Logan is going to make it. I think much better prospects at this point lost their seat. As for Mick... I think he showed he's nothing special in F1. I don't even recall where he pulled something special out of his butt on some "planets somehow aligned" moment.

Some stories said that Ralf's efforts made a significant contribution to Hass not resigning Mick.

I guess the question about Logan Sargent and Nick DeVries is: Are they are as bad as they appear or is there another explanation that is cured with more seat time?

I would think that with Sargent there is a commercial interest in having a US driver in a car that is not top of the field anyway.

There is probably a big gap between F2 and F1, one that not everybody is able to close during their first year.
Having said that, neither Logan Sargeant, nor Nyck de Vries landed in a very performing team to start with.
Piastri doesn't do so bad at McLaren.

Gap between F2 and F1 isn’t the problem.
Sergeant and Mick are just midfield drivers at best.
    Usually worse than that..

Put any new driver in a Williams or an Alpha Tauri, and they will look bad.

No surprise: those teams are bottom of the WCC ranking.

Mick had his chance and didn't cut it. Time for him to find another job. Same with Sergeant.

Mick Schumacher had 48 GPs to show his worth. He didn't satisfy his employer and was replaced.
Logan Sargent has done only 8 GPs so far. How can one expect him to perform in a team technically and financially so deficient ?
Even James Vowles, Williams team principal, has found the team having obsolete infrastructure following 20 years of under funding.
In these last years, George Russell and Alex Albon have been true heroes extracting such performances from their Williams.

Sargent will be given an IndyCar test by Meyer Shank Racing. I hope he does well.

Err, yes, a lot of people care. This may be a global forum, but the majority are from the States. So yes, I think an American (about to be ex) F1 driver trying another top line of open wheel motorsport is something many people care about. I don't think he'll end up in Indycar, as the talent is as deep as F1, and there are very few seats left. I assume WEC or IMSA will be his ultimate resting ground, which is still better than 99.9% of hopefuls ever manage.

Do you still have TransAm in the US ?

My uninformed impression is that Williams was willing to take his (uncle’s, I believe) money…thank you very much…and then pretty much left him to fend for himself, but who knows what was actually in his contract? I’m not inclined to give the team the benefit of the doubt, though.

If it still exists it’s far from its original form, which was right up there with CanAm in terms of quality of drivers, cars, teams, venues, etc. Glory days, for sure.

They run multiple classes now, which I think dilutes the talent and the interest. I wish they would stick to one class, similar in specification to the old series, and only allow similar cars, which today should be Mustangs, Camaros and Challengers only.

I still consider the 1970 Trans Am series to be the single best season that any U.S. series has ever had, before or since.

I would also add that the 2.5 liter class with Datsun and Alfa was also exceedingly good. BRE running the Datsun 510 and Kweck running the Alfa GTV. Pete Brock once said that the budget for them exceeded what the pony cars were getting.

Jeff I think that the BRE 510 arrived in 1971? Going from a foggy memory here. John Morton could mix it up with the 5 liter cars.

I remember that era in the 70s, and lost sight of Transam since.
It used to be a worthwhile series then, with good drivers (Parneli Jones, Moffat, Yenko, etc ...)

Remember, in 1970 all the Detroit companies were providing support. I think that by 1971 they had all stopped except AMC.
