In the F430, does anyone know the location/source of the horrendously annoying loud beeping? It happens all the time when I... a) turn key on to position 1 b) unbuckle seatbelt before turning engine off c) turn engine off in neutral I did a search, and could only find this one thread from 2010 that didn't come to a conclusion. https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/f430-key-sound-is-annoying.304147/ Yes I know it won't do it when you turn the engine off in gear, and it's an important warning sound, especially the reverse chirp (assuming same source of noise). But I just want to make it a little quieter. Wishful thinking, but I imagine a speaker under the dash that could just have a piece of tape put over it to lessen the harshness. I can't find anything in parts diagrams, so wanted to ask the experts here. Thanks in advance, looking forward to the responses.
These was the first thing I did on my 355 and I've been dying to fix the 430. That beeper is unnecessary and makes we wanna punch a baby lol I'll look into it's location this weekendi believe the parking beep is different, located in the center console, right next to the seat belt receptacle
sub'd! The sound doesn't make me want to punch a baby, but it does kind of make me want to blow up a hospital. Ironically, I also had the tape idea, but likewise had no luck finding the source!
Well, whether or not we come up with a location for the beeper, this thread at least has given me a lot of good outlets for my evil alter-ego.
Once source of sound... Image Unavailable, Please Login (rear of instrument cluster) Image Unavailable, Please Login I don't know if the grille is also used for cluster cooling, so I can't recommend taping over it. I don't know if the reversing sound is from the same source. I can't find anything in the wiring diagrams from the reversing circuits which goes into the instrument cluster (other than a databus from the F1 TCU). There is an input into the stereo system, but I assume this is for activating the reversing camera and not for generating reversing sounds through the stereo system.
I have disabled the convertible top beeps and the beeps referred to in this thread except for the neutral one. It's in my project thread somewhere. Don't disable the beeper/speaker itself - it is used for other warnings that are actually important.
I don’t recall seeing a separate beeper for the roof in the wiring diagrams… at least not on the 360/430. Do you recall how you disabled it?
I guess it depends on whether the speaker is a combined tone generator and speaker or just a speaker. There may be a separate chip or oscillator circuit generating the sound. Are the sounds all the same for every warning?
Great stuff so far, I'm glad other people are passionate about solving this too! If the "key turning on / engine off in neutral" beeper is the one in the instrument cluster, sigh... that looks hard to get to. (at least for a novice like me) Regarding the seatbelt, I went digging in mwstewart's thread and found what he did. Doesn't do anything to the beeper itself, but rather stops the signal from going to it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- mwstewart wrote: Seat Belt Warning Disabled The seat belt warning is annoying: it beeps as soon as the key is turned to position 2. On the 360 and F430 it's prudent to wait for the self check to complete before starting the engine, so the first thing I do is turn the key, then I put on my seat belt whilst the check completes. The buckle sensor completes a circuit when closed so disabling is simply a case of disconnecting the plug under the seat, or remove one of the pins and tape it up in the loom itself - I've taken the latter approach so I can keep the plug connected. This is of course reversible if required.
hmmm...going to be taking my dash out for the defroster vent fix soon...maybe I'll try to see if the speaker can easily be removed and just tape over the speaker to avoid possible heat build up issues by taping over the grill. thanks @Qavion!
I added an inline switch to the wire going from the the roof module to the cluster - it's a dedicated wire for the buzzer activation. I can disable or return to stock configuration easily.
I'm surprised y'alls still work. When I took my cluster apart to replaced a stepper motor mine had fallen straight off the board. I just got a standard 8 ohm mini speaker from radio shack and soldered it in. I've regretted ever since
Interesting. When I was creating my 360 wiring diagrams, I did notice two wires going to the instrument cluster from the Roof ECU, but wasn't sure what each did. Can you recall pin numbers or wire colours? There was a grey wire and a grey/brown wire. Did you put the switch at the ECU end or the Instrument Panel end? Image Unavailable, Please Login
I found all three. The 1st one is the "key beep". most annoying, it is in fact in the cluster, soldered to the board. beeps all the time, when key is in. when key is turned to on, right after car is started. also when in reverse? #2 in the Reverse gear reminder. Its in the center console, right at your seat belt receptacle. beeps when in reverse only. #3 is the parking sensor warning chime. located on just behind the carpet but the battery. beeps when near objects video:https://photos.app.goo.gl/jzi8A3prc8Hq4mvP8 Image Unavailable, Please Login My plan is to quite down the cluster speaker and for the other two, look into replacing the speakers with one from another car that has a more pleasant beep tone lol
Interesting. I couldn't find this in the wiring diagrams or in the parts manual. Did you happen to see a number on it (or did you just use your ears to find an approximate location)?
I'm out in the car so I can't double check, but I'm pretty sure I have seen it on the parts diagrams, I'll check tonight when I'm at my computer Image Unavailable, Please Login
So I don't want to just completely unsolder it, cuz I do think having that beeper can be beneficial. I just want it at a normal human level lol. I also don't want to destroy it or make it have some weird buzzing sound, so my goal is just to quiet it down I first tried a piece of adhesive foam tape, no change in volume. I then applied a layer of hot glue on top of the speaker and I think the volume has been reduced by about 75% Looks promising, let me know what you guys come up with. Is that something which can be peeled off later? I was thinking about some kind of latex rubber or some easily-removable caulking. Thanks for the part number!
That's the parking sensor option. Easier just to unplug the module in the central electronics area behind the seats. I left mine as is as it can be useful. Depends on where you drive.
