The local Napa store had this in the correct wt. for our cars. Wondering if anyone had any experience using it? Does it foam, etc.? It's $9.00/liter so similar to Mobil 1 which does foam and I don't use.

    thanks

Which Mobil 1 are you having foaming issues with? I have been using Mobil 1 0w-40 for many years and never had any foaming issues with my F355. But man, that Shell stuff the dealer uses sure does.

I'm getting a major performed right now, and I know I will see foam on the stick when I get it back. ;) I will go back to Mobil 1 0w-40 once a year passes.

I think it was Mitch that said you should meet or exceed the same HTHS spec of the Shell Ultra Helix 5w-40 which I believe is 3.7 Mobil 1 0w-40 is 3.8

I tried the Mobil 1 a few years ago when I first bought my 355. Like you said the shell helix also foamed, but so did the Mobil 1. I'm currently using the Napa full synthetic which is made my Valvoline and it doesn't foam at all and is dirt cheap and meets all specs of Shell Helix.

On a side note, I just checked my oil level after probably about 9 months (and 3,000 miles) and it is exactly at the full mark. My car doesn't seem to use any oil, amazing!

Interesting, no foam for me. My engine will typically consume about 1 quart in 2,500 miles or so. Just had a compression check (59k miles) and all good....major service proceeding as planned. Dodged that bullet. ;)

I use Redline synthetic and no foam at all. Seems to work well, but at $10 a quart it better.

I did a check & then an oil change just before putting it away for the winter. After 2700 miles on the car since the last oil change, it was 1/3 quart low. I can live with that.

I use Liqui-Moly (Lubro-Moly) 5w40 in a 95 F355; the car has had this oil for the past 5 years including previous owner and my time with it. Car seems happy; mechanic approves as well.

The rule of thumb I go by for oil is that if it's not obviously wrong for the car (poor quality and/or weight) and if the car isn't complaining - don't change a thing.

    Cheers!
