Finally got my license plates in the mail today. Now life is good, and hopefully I won't lose my license. Bruce P.
As an FYI, it was Joe Walsh's song "Life's Been Good" not Joe Cocker with the famous line "My Maserati Does 185, I lost my license, Now I don't Drive!" Joe (No Maserati at the time could do 185) C. Khamsin #1226 Ghibli SS #2110 Mistral # 1216 Bora # 1046
What was I thinking!! Thanks for the clarification. Bruce 2008 Gran Turismo Argento Luna Exterior Rosso Red Interior JOE WALSH Life's Been Good I have a mansion, forget the price. Ain't never been there they tell me it's nice. I live in hotels, tear out the walls. I have accountants pay for it all. They say I'm crazy, but I have a good time. (Everybody say oh, yeah.....OH,YEAH) I'm just looking for clues at the scene of the crime. Life's been good to me so far. My Masarati does one-eighty-five. I lost my license, now I don't drive. I have a limo, ride in the back. I lock the doors in case I'm attacked. I make hit records, my fans they can't wait. They write me letters, tell me I'm great. So I got me an office, gold records on the wall. Just leave a message, maybe I'll call. Lucky I'm sane after all I've been through. (Everybody say I'm cool......He's cool) I can't complain but sometimes I still do. Life's been good to me so far I go to parties, sometimes until 4. It's hard to leave when you can't find the door. It's tough to handle this fortune and fame. Everybody's so different, I haven't changed. They say I'm lazy but I have a good time (Everybody say oh, yeah.....OH,YEAH) I keep on going guess I'll never know why. Life's been good to me so far.
Joe never said his Maserati did 185 miles an hour. He was singing about it doing 185 KILOMETERS an hour. He just didn't want to mention the word kilo in his song because Eric Clapton would go into some relapse each time he heard the song.
Well that's what doing a lot of drugs will do to you and there's no rehab for it! ;>)) The man is clearly flake to the 3rd power but great to watch & listen to. There is "supposedly" a story about the 185 MPH and I'll try to dig it out but I'm not sure I believe it. Bob S.
Bruce, this is the first thread in a long time that's made me laugh out loud. Enjoy that beautiful car. I'll put the photo up for you. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Someone in Ohio has a 2000s Maserati -- coupe or convertible, I forget which -- with the same plate . . . but would you believe it is the same (or nearly the same) color, too?! BTW, to Joe C., what about that silver turbocharged Bora, or another modified Maserati?
OK, so here's the the link I remembered and it's about 4th hand but that's what this guy heard so who knows??? "The 1962 Tipo 151 Coupe which was up for sale in an ad in Road & Track in 1963 in which the 185mph figure was touted. The author of that line, guitarist Joe Walsh, had a friend who owned a Maserati (but not the 151) which is where he got the inspiration for the lyic from his song "Life's Been Good." I interviewed him about it in the Spring of 1996 for a short article in iL TRIDENTE. -Seymour Pond"
Yea his name was Lucky Casner his 151 was doing 185 mh down the Mulsanne Straight at Le Mans when it flipped over killing him.
You have company in Washington State! Not my Merak, this is a fellow FCA member at a tech session last weekend at Griots Garage in Fife, WA. And just for the record, I spent a few hours at Joe Walsh's LA 'bachelor pad' (actually in Studio City on Blairwood Drive). I was doing an interview for a cover story in CQ Magazine (a geeky mag for ham radio buffs - Joe (like me) is a ham radio guy). The article ran in the November, 2002 issue of CQ with my photo of him on the cover, and lots more plus a full interview inside. Fun project! While there I asked him about that song and he explained some of the lines: 1. "I live in hotels tear out the walls" - reference to the Who concert tour where he and Roger Daltrey literally destroyed a European hotel room while drunk one night 2. "I have a mansion.... they tell me it's nice" - that same year he had just got married and his new wife bought the house, but Joe never saw it for entire time he was on tour with The Who (over 1 year). By the time he returned from the long tour, she had sold the house. 3. "... Does 185" - was NOT his car, Maser or otherwise. It was an LA rock star friend (unnamed) who bought the car, and wrecked it 3 times on the way home from the dealer, and the 3 hits totalled the car. He ONLY SAID 185 to rhyme with DRIVE. He had no idea how fast the friend was actually driving the car at the time, but only put it in the song as a 'typical insane drunk rock star' anecdote that fit the theme. He just guessed a number that sounded good and ended in Five! Jedi Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yet another annecdote. I've seen one other as well and it was even less impressive. So in the end who really knows. It's just a good song and now at least there is a street Maserati that will do better than 185. Bob S.
