I'd like to ask the group to compile a list of quotes about the F355 or 355 F1 made by people at Ferrari, journalists, drivers or designers. I have not seen many from Pininfarina or Luca. Can you all search your old magazines or press kits to list some here? I'll do what I can going through Forza and the Ferrari Yearbooks from the era. Let's try to keep the sarcasm and comedy down on any perceived issues with the car and stick to positive quotes. Thanks. Here is one from my signature: The F355 can be used at a very ordinary cruising speed , or can reveal all its mettle when you put your foot down, producing a roar and assertiveness that recall a real racing car engine." Michael Schumacher Thanks for the help finding these. Robb
"Pinifarina and ourselves have done our best to make the F355 a truly usable car in which you can drive to the office as well as have fun on a race track or go for a holiday tour." Luca Cordero di Montezemolo Robb
"After 3 years, Ferrari has managed to copy the 1991 Toyota MR2." Me. Image Unavailable, Please Login
You must have missed this in the OP... Let's try to keep the sarcasm and comedy down on any perceived issues with the car and stick to positive quotes. Thanks.
"This is my go kart. It communicates everything on the road and is fun to drive." Luca Cordero di Montezemolo about his personal F355 spider used as a daily driver. Robb
"The 355 is the perfect balance of raw sports car and elegant exotic. Everything it does, it does fantastically with purpose and excess capability. Anything it doesn't do - you don't need." PhilB, January 14, 2015
Riiiiiiiiight!. Well let me clarify again. I'm hoping to compile a list from people quoted in the press. I know each of us are capable of making up some great lines... But I'm looking for historical posts from the people that reviewed and built the cars. Thanks. Please post what you find in the press. Robb
Boiler Room - "I drive a Ferrari, 355 Cabriolet, What's up?" The Rock - "Hey man you just ****ed up your Ferrari" "It's not mine" Phil Hill formula 1 driver - One of the 10 best Ferraris ever made.
And how can we forget one of the best quotes of all time from Jeremy Clarkson on top gear? "This is the nicest car I have ever, ever driven." If you are a 355 enthusiast and have not seen this video yet, you should certainly look it up
who is Jeremy Clarkson? We don't need his opinion, he drives his own cars like a *****. And he can only do some drifting on empty airfield! Ever seen him racing on a proper circuit!
"The 355 is very, probably...the best Ferrari of all time. And of course if it's the best Ferrari of all time, it's just got to be, the greatest car in the world. Ever." Jeremy Clarkson http://youtu.be/u7nZ6oVcDX4
I like Clarkson's opinion because he is not a professional race car driver. He also gets to drive and compare just about everything ever made. It's useful information for someone like myself. Professional drivers rarely have good things to say about street cars for obviouse reasons, and any positives are given because they're being paid $.
Are you serious?.....the man can drive , and do it very well, I repect his opinion, hes pretty straightforward bout his reviews, he has driven everything you can think of, he knows his sh.t. I dnt agree with your comment at all im sorry.
The 355 was Ferrari's answer. Beauty and power came together and are still very much in evidence today. "And ,my god , the 355 is pretty" "Richard Hammond"
Yes sir, my favorite quotes regarding the 355 right here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8YZzGaprtA&list=PLrWYTtwA3cQ7H19LWhB0GCkN2hHnMjNOQ&index=1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u7nZ6oVcDX4&list=PLrWYTtwA3cQ7H19LWhB0GCkN2hHnMjNOQ&index=2 All you need to know! Kind regards, Nuno.
"The F355 is, we're certain a landmark car for Ferrari. Not only is it good enough to tear down the walls of the class you think it should be in (V8) and cause deep blushes throughout the one above (V12), but it is also the best sports car Ferrari has turned out since the 246 GT Dino some 30 years ago. More than that, the F355 is the first car we've driven that seriously brings into question the logic of spending seven times more on a McLaren F1 when in usable terms it achieves at least 95 percent as much. Certainly there's nothing this side of Bugatti's EB 110 SuperSport to touch it dynamically, including Ferrari's own F512M. If ever there was a bargain for super cars, this surely is it." Autocar October 1994
The Ferrari 355 is like a quail's egg dipped in celery salt and served in Julia Roberts' belly button. - Jeremy Clarkson
Truth! Best? No. Better than most? IMO, yes. He fools around a lot but still has a lot of talent behind the wheel
I have documented notable (favourable) comments on the F355 for some time now, just looking through my pictures of articles I have saved and found these two gems, I hope you enjoy. An interview with Jenson Button in Top Gear Magazine: TG: Whats the best car you've bought? JB: I loved my Mercedes CLK DTM. And my Ferrari 355, I'll never sell that car. And my Porsche Carrera GT. And in EVO magazine a column by Dario Franchitti: After I signed a deal in America with Tim Green for the 1998 CART season and my signing bonus went straight to a 355 (I still couldn't afford the F40) I bought a spider version (I do love a convertible) and I chose left hand drive as there seemed to be much less of an offset with the pedals, and a more natural driving position resting your left foot on the wheel arch. Plus with the exchange rates it worked out cheaper! It was the first of the Ferrari's id owned that really did everything it was supposed to, and I've done some cracking road trips in it. I still own it, and its a bit like triggers broom now, and although a well driven hot hatch or Subaru will see it off, I don't really care. The noise is so much better than that of the modern V8 Ferrari's too: both the F430 and the 458 seemed to have lost something of that high pitch scream the 355 emits, especially when you take the silencers off.
Almost 20 years ago when I drove the 355 F1 when it first came out I thought the F1 system was super awesome. It still amazes me when I think back about that time. Jeremy was never in favor of it and called it the flappy pedal gearbox and didn't like it. since then I never took him serious anymore.
My favourite 355 quote is: "The trouble with pensions is, they can't do this." http://goo.gl/ZoLafy By the usual suspect, I'm afraid!
Elliott, Perfect. Thanks for that info. Just the stuff I was looking for. If you have more, post away! Robb
