I brought my '02 GT Coupe to my Farrari mechanic so he could perform a routine service. I wanted to establish a baseline for the car based on time and mileage. He changed all fluids, oil and filter, re-gapped the plugs, and even changed the cabin filter and serpentine belt - at my request.
My little Maser has never perfromed so well. Even better than when I took delivery of the car from Ron Tonkin. (who did nothing to prep the car except maybe a wash/shine and replace the rear tires).

So what did I get out of it ???? well everything !!!!! Bloody car runs like a rocket ..... I know better than to compare my GT Coupe to my Dino 308 GT4 or my C5 Corvette, the technologies are worlds apart. I treat the Corvette to the same service descipline as the Ferrari. My GT4 is kept in great order, thanks my Ferrari mechanic. I am hoping to maintain my Maser in the same operating condition for many years to come.

don't the new cars have a ton of computer-related issues that would require a dealer with the right technology to adequately assess problems?

No, they don't, stay away from these software updates if you have an 02, they make your car shift much slower. The Maserati is a very local-mechanic friendly car, very few things you would have to take it into a dealer for if anything.

Yes, and if you do happen to find yourself at a dealer: First thing you say is don't touch the software. Even if your going in to have a windshield wiper repaired under warranty.

Then there's only the computer and software that sits between your gas pedal and the fuel injectors... and the computer that's minding the ABS... and the stability control computer.... and the one that's runnning the climate control system... did you say you have a navigation system????
