The R-10's at Sebring were silent...you would just here a swoosh as they went by and I was 20 ft away and then the Mazda would come by and you would go deaf from the noise.

No, you're comparing different types of cars especially when one was custom built with nearly an unlimited budget. I don't have much a problem with diesel, but I guess they were looking for 10% better mpg as well getting a lot of free advertising in the form of news articles.

I'm more concerned about competition in that class. Bring back the late 90s where BMW, Porsche, McLaren, and Mercedes spent lots of money to compete with eachother. Now it's just Audi vs. themselves. I do think the R10 looks better than all of the R8s, though. I love the lwb it has compared to the R8s.

actually, exhaust components cool down relatively quickly compared to engines and gearboxes..

I'd rather change a turbo than a gearbox on a race car during the race.....

Interesting statistic was just given on the TV broadcast, a record 235,000 spectators for this year's 24 hours. For some reason, I always thought it was more.

It makes them real fuel consuming racecars as racing has been since the invention of the automobile.

Diesel just doesn't do anything for me. Audi might as well use hybrids, electric or nuclear power. I couldn't care less.

As far as the broadcast is concerned I must have really been on the unlucky side: Every time I tune in, it is either a commercial, NASCAR, some statistics, no pic just sound or some Audi or Vette guy talking. How about them cars running?

Not that I am a big diesel or Audi fan either, but you have to give them credit for working within the rules and pretty much walking the field. If someone could work within the rules and use electric, hybrid, etc.......and get the result.......that is what it is all about. Its about competition.

They (Europeans) have really advanced the diesel technology, but diesels have been pretty good for years in Europe. I end up renting them when I am in Europe all the time.

I agree with all these statements and do the same (rent a TDI).

But: Racing and sportscars to me are all about emotions, sounds and smells. And a Diesel powered anything just leaves me cold. Watching these Audis is to me like watching the insides of an escalator go round and round. To me emotionally this is no longer a racecar but a well tuned appliance.

Stopped watching about 3:30 EDT and just got back up. I'm pretty surprised the #7 R10 hasn't gotten around Montagny. Maybe Franck should stick to endurance racing instead of Super Aguri.

I don't have much a problem with diesel because it comes from oil like gasoline. It makes most sense in endurance racing where you want better mpg. The only reasong the diesel is winning is because Audi has an unlimited budget and can use that to r/d the heck out of the car and engine.

Has nobody twigged to the web coverage from radio Le Mans?

    http://www.radiolemans.com

There's even a link to the streaming Dutch video stream. Get the Dutch video stream going then click on the radio Le Mans link and get Dutch video and English commentary.

Panoz just took the lead in GT2 and it's raining 10 minutes from the circuit, but blowing the wrong way, maybe.....

I enjoyed racing the diesel Benz. Power delivery was a little different, but, as far as I'm concerned, it had four wheels and a steering wheel. Same damn thing.
