Congrats to Audi! Anyone know the results of the Risi 458?
Wow, what a race - the final minutes were just awesomely exiting. Mr. Jim G. is in for a challenge for the 24 hours of Nürburgring! Biggest congratulations to Audi, they deserved it 100%. Wow wow wow!
Risi didn't have a formal entry this year. Very happy for Audi cost them two cars so I was praying for a win. But I'm "Super Duper" happy for Corvette I love ferrari and porsche but the racing corvette is pure sexy they also lost a car weird how both winners lost all their sister cars to win the lemans. LOL
Congrats to Audi and Corvette. 24 Races are very tough, a lot of retirements. The Peugeot's were very cool as well. Glad Rockefeller is OK. Pretty amazing that after 24 hours the gap was only 13 seconds.
Supported by? Yes. Entered by? No. http://www.risicompetizione.net/articles/risi-comp-team-members-to-attend-le-mans
+1! At the expense of a 430 no less. That said, happy to see an American privateer effort do so well, especially their first time. USA!
A clip from the good old days of Le Mans [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0gvuUTiBtho[/ame] Those guys were tough as hell!
A truly classic Le Mans - Fantastic stuff. Now they all go back in their boxes until next year. The above is however incorrect; The winner this year did 355 laps x 8.5 miles = ~3000 miles. F1 has 19 ~200 mile races = 3800 miles. Nice theory, but wrong Cheers, Ian
Good race. Great to see the Corvettes back on top. Also nice to see the Ferrari close to the top again. Was hoping the French would win OA. I am looking forward to seeing the Corvettes, Ferrari's and others again at Road America in a few months. Tom Tanner/Ferrari Expo 2012-Chicago March 2012
I wonder if the "theory" assumes time/miles lost due to caution. Roughly 3 hours were slowed just for the 2 Audi wrecks and add to that the miles/laps lost due to the other cautions. Anyone know the most cumulative time spent under the yellow at any one Le Mans race? I did a quick Google search but couldn't find it.
I had a quick look at it "the other way" - Was surprised to learn that the record distance was set last year at 5410KM / 3361 miles. So, it appears that all the time lost to the SC "only" shortened the distance covered by ~300 miles. I would guess this years must be around the longest under yellow though - I don't recall 'em having to rebuild the barriers so extensively twice before now (?) Cheers, Ian
Keep in mind the track today has a lot more chicanes and curves. In 67 my Ford turned a 3:22 and went 3200+ miles. The LM cars hardly go back in their boxes. The Ford that won in 68 and 69 had over 20K racing miles and these cars have a robust racing schedule as well. Take the winning F1 car. Exactly how many miles will it race this year compared to this Audi? (Same chassis not spare)
Sorry - I should have put a smiley in there - No offense intended - As "hard core" fans we know that, but virtually no casual fan follows LM outside of Le Mans was my slightly cynical point Oh - The Audi will cover many more miles over the course of the season, no doubt. 'Twas different in the days of unlimited testing, but then they'd be running maybe 4-5 different cars. Cheers, Ian
To all those saying the McNish crash was the fault of the Ferrari, I suggest you take another look at the footage!. McNish was coming from a long way back, trying to overtake two cars coming into that corner when there was only room to overtake one, and by the looks of his closing speed, he was just going too fast!. The Ferrari driver would have been concentrating on the car directly behind him and would not have been anticipating McNish trying to overtake in the way that he did. As for people saying he was flashing his lights like crazy at the Ferrari, you must have a better picture than I've got!. If your basing it on the "flashing" rear lights of the Ferrari then you need to realise that this is a natural phenomenon of LED lights when viewed on camera and not an indication that the car behind is flashing it's lights!. Congratulations to Audi on the Win!
Phil, Anyone with common sense know's McNish tried a move that was inappropriate and he could have waited just as Lewis could have done in Monaco.
