I have not driven my 812 SF for 2 or 3 weeks at a time and never had any battery issues. But once I left the key fob sitting in the car for a week and it seemed to discharge the battery way down. Has anybody else noticed this behavior?

Yes. The car will not go to "sleep" if a keyless fob is left inside.

100%, I do not leave key FOBs in cars in the shop. They will stay "awake" and it can cause increased battery drain. I also discovered you can leave your spare key FOB in the books in the truck of a 488. It will not let the trunk close. Had a client with that issue. Couldn't drive the car, had to make a house call. He was embarrassed when we realized what was happening.

No actual key but rather the wireless key fob, just sitting on the passenger seat. Actually I don't even know if there is a key in there somewhere or not.

You didn't say what car you are talking about. Cars with keyless push to start that just have a FOB will stay awake "thinking" you intend to start the car. Keyed cars with FOBs don't do this. Having said that, I have had a couple cars lock themselves when the key was inside. So it is possible that some cars are active so to speak even if they have a key & FOB.
