One of my pals left the sunroof on his 2000 Passat ajar, and it rained a little that day (Not realising this of course). Well, the next day, it was sunny out and the water on the leather had dried up, and now parts of the seats are like rock-hard leather. Id there any way to restore the leather?

    yes.

there's a ton of good products out there and personal preferences are diverse.

i've had good luck with lexol product while others swear by meguiars and still others swear by another product called "hide food" or something like that. The latter is for leather that needs a lot of help.

Lexol is easy to come by and if the damage is limited to what you described a good cleaning and conditioning (esp. since no offense but VW leather isn't that impressive to start with) and you'll be as good as new.
