Anyone have a recommendation for a leather glue/cement for repairing a door panel? I'm replacing the leather trimmed carpet panel on my 328 door panels. The originals were glued with some sort of contact cement on the leather portion. There is also a leather trim trim along the bottom that needs to be refastened.

Anyone have suggestions on a product that worked well for them? I've heard of a product called E6000 but I hear that it has a smell that lingers for a long time. Also have heard about other leather glues with mixed results.

    Thanks

The glue that comes with leather repair kits (to apply a repair cloth to the back of torn leather) looks like a watered down version of Elmers-type white glue. That repair glue (not Elmers) might be a good choice where you are applying new leather to an existing surface because it will give you a little (very little) time to move the leather around to remove bubbles or just to flatten out before the glue sets. That glue clearly works on the leather side, but I am not sure how it will work if the other side is nonporous. It's definitely best to call a leather product specialist (there are plenty of them - Color Plus, Leather Renew, etc).

If you are trying to reattach a piece of leather that is under tension, it seems like contact glue would work best (just make sure you have it absolutely correctly positioned before you bond the two sides because there is no going back).

Gorilla makes a cyanoacrylate ( superglue) that works on various porous surfaces. I have tried it on leather, wood, and various fabrics. It thick like a gel and sets up pretty quick with pressure.
I bought it at one of the big box stores, lowes or HD.

You might want to give it a test.
