Will be interesting to see what these go for since there is no reserve.
I will be there....but not planning on bidding on any of them b/c I think all are Automatic trannies....arggghhhhh.
Not much information to go on. Looks like 3 at least have been on the Anamera site for a while. Lot 704 the Blue/Brown might, that's might, be s/n 34985. The "1978" 400i looks pretty rough. Can anyone provide or confirm the serial numbers that are missing?
any idea on this cars history or previous owners? I am looking for a red project car and this might be interesting to me. Anybody in theHuston area that might be able to check it out for me? I restored a Packard twin 6 a few years ago maybe this Ferrari is the rare twin six model!!! Thnx, Howard tr0768 206-919-1949
According to Leake, here are the VIN numbers. Only four of the six cars have VIN numbers in their system. 81 400 134985 78 400 328778 82 mondeo 039341 81 400 no vin 87 412 067549 83 400 no vin Cheers Claudio
From their website, Lot 726 (Gray/Black) is s/n 35721 (for sale in 2001 and again in 2004 with 34K miles in 2004. For sale on Anamera in Feb 2009) and Lot 733 (Blue/"mustard" sic) is s/n 43573 (for sale in 1999 with 49K miles from a seller in Georgia and again in Feb 2009 through Anamera). The 412, s/n 67549, I have last shown listed for sale in 1999, 29,960 miles from a seller in CT and an asking price of $44K.
This Question is for the gurus on 400is. The vin # of my 1980series 1 that I have owened for more than a decade is Vin #28903. The 1978 400i listed at auction is vin# 328778? Maybe I'm just nit-picking here, but something is askew here. Tell me that this simply a "typo" because dealing in "gray market" cars is a risk at best. Any light on this will be helpful. I have this nightmare that my vin# is bogus. Thank you all so much.
Plus it is an even serial number which, at the time, was reserved for race car chassis only. According to FML the first 400i is 27075 and the last, produced in February 1985, is 55523. So Jacques, your series 1 400i is at the early part of the injected series run. Also according to FML, the first 400 was 19353 and the last was 29051 (Cavallino says last 400 was 28261). Yes, I am aware of the overlaps between the last 400 s/n and the first 400i s/n but that is what makes Ferrari research so much fun!
Thanks for the quick response guys..You boys were all on this "like a bum on a pork-chop". Also, I do realize that my car is an early build..listed as a 1980, the build could have actually been in 1979 as is the case with some other marques? I think my nightmare may subside and I'll sleep better.. Thanks again, all. Jacques.
It's a little hard to tell with the 1978 400 "i" but those are definitely 6 weber sidedraft carburetors beneath all the dirt and grime in the engine bay! Many of the other cars in the auction seem to have reasonably decent descriptions so it seems as though this group of cars, with virtually no useful information about the cars' condition, may all have been sort of dumped into the auction for some reason. With little or no known history for these cars, it will take a brave person to bid on these at the auction.
Who was driving towards Austin on Highway 71 last Sunday sometime around 2 pm on a Blue 400 series? Caugth it with the corner of my left eye. Nothing like it on the roads.... Just curious. Cheers Claudio
I got the same impression, a steam cleaner would have done them all a world of good! I may have to go out there and see "what's what".....hands in pockets of course!
...With a flash ligth and a camera. The NR cars will go on Sunday. If the prices of the 400 cars NR are within reasonable amounts (in my mind...), I may take one hand out of my pocket and see what happens.....
